Is it a sin to not eat your entire plate?

It was Christmas and I had eaten too many cookies but I decided to fill my plate with food anyways. Being the girl I am I obviously was having a hard time finishing my plate. My dad said to me "Finish your plate or else." So, like a good Christian girl I did.

    Now, I realize two things:

    1. It is against the Lord's word to disobey my father

    2. It is against the Lord's word to disobey a man

What I'm really curious about is wasting food a sin?

With open mind and an open heart, Janine Walker

What kind of food are we talking about?

    Godly American meat and taters?

Or ethnic third world crap-o-teria fodder?
Jud 1:15 To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are unGodly among them of all their unGodly deeds which they have unGodly committed, and of all their hard [speeches] which unGodly sinners have spoken against him.

Venison, steak and mashed taters. My dad killed 5 deer just in case for Christmas dinner. He loves hunting! It took me an awfully long time to clean up after all the blood though..

        @SUV
No, silly! I mean eat the rest of the food on the plate, sorry for the misunderstanding! Besides, my father will not let me eat chocolate. I may only eat CHRISTmas cookies once a year.

        MERRY CHRISTMAS, Janine Walker

Re: Is it a sin to not eat your entire plate?

No, as long as it doesn't contradict any other principles you should take as much food as you want. Taking too much food may seem "wasteful", but anyone with a good grasp of Christian Conservative economics will realise that the excess food will just trickle down to those who need it.
O Lord our God, help us to tear their soldiers to bloody shreds with our shells; help us to cover their smiling fields with the pale forms of their patriot dead; help us to drown the thunder of the guns with the shrieks of their wounded, writhing in pain; help us to lay waste their humble homes with a hurricane of fire; help us to wring the hearts of their unoffending widows with unavailing grief; help us to turn them out roofless with little children to wander unfriended the wastes of their desolated land in rags and hunger and thirst, sports of the sun flames of summer and the icy winds of winter, broken in spirit, worn with travail, imploring Thee for the refuge of the grave and denied it--for our sakes who adore Thee, Lord, blast their hopes, blight their lives, protract their bitter pilgrimage, make heavy their steps, water their way with their tears, stain the white snow with the blood of their wounded feet! We ask it, in the spirit of love, of Him Who is the Source of Love, and Who is the ever-faithful refuge and friend of all that are sore beset and seek His aid with humble and contrite hearts. Amen.

God being truth, justice, goodness, beauty, power, and life, man is falsehood, iniquity, evil, ugliness, impotence, and death. God being master, man is the slave. Incapable of finding justice, truth, and eternal life by his own effort, he can attain them only through a divine revelation... he who desires to worship God must harbor no childish illusions about the matter, but bravely renounce his liberty and humanity.

You should see what they are doing in Pennsylvania, USA. They make a concoction called Pennsylvania Dutch Eggnog. The eggnog is made with eggs, cream, whiskey and brandy. Then they add rum. That would be a heavenly drink except it is influenced by those Dutch feriners.

We Americans are experts at wasting food and we lead the world in that honor. It just shows the great bounty to be had in the United States since we are God's favorite country.
May you be a blessing to every life you touch.

Holland is a place of SIN. It is boldly proclaimed as "Land of Dykes"

And what's this thing supposed to be? Some kind of jacked-up Swastika?

Your implied dilemma of having to either disobey your father or commit gluttony is false. Yes, they're both sins. Proverbs 23:2 tells us "And put a knife to thy throat, if thou [be] a man given to appetite." In Galations 5, we are told that one of the fruits of the Spirit is temperance. There are many other scriptures, as well. However, you put yourself in this situation. Sin was committed the moment you knowingly overfilled your plate.

The real question is whether or not, by cleaning your plate, you actually overate anyway. Did you throw up anything and then return to your plate, like the ancient, heathen Greeks used to do? That would be gluttony. Anything short of that is just evidence of God's Bounty in your life.

I did not throw it up, my stomach was just uncomfortable for a while.

                            I Cor. 9:24-27

24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. 25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. 26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: 27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway

I realize I put myself into a situation where I did not use self-control and some of the core values of a Christian are self-control and discipline.

Christians (and only Christians) cannot possibly waste food as God tells us he will always provide. Mrs. Porter felt guilty when we hacked the breast out of our Christmas turkey and threw the rest away. But Scripture makes it clear.

Philippians 4:19 "But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus."

Unsaved scum, on the other hand should, make the most out of every bag of rice, tortilla or roadside carrion, as they are on their own. And rightfully so since they choose to spit on Jesus. Why would He provide when they hate Him?

As for actually consuming the plate itself, it's still tried every day in some insignificant wasteland of a country and it just won't fit in their mouths. I wouldn't attempt.
