eyewitiness testimony isn't evidence, besides, the 100 years the bible hadn't been written yet, the only way it could survive was through word of mouth. In this system of passing ideas down to future generations, things in the stories get altered, and exaggerated, to make them appear more impressive or mysterious. The book's been around for 2000 years. plenty of time for it to slowly evolve into an entirely new book.

It was already old when the Israelites descended on the Amalekites and wiped them out in a genocidal fury. A couple of thousand years later the French massacred the Albigensian heretics, inspired by the same belief system.
