  • HELP? Computer has a virus. Hackers took over the internet?

I think my computer has been hacked. I went to wikipedia today and it says they are offline because of something called SOAP. Then I tried going to Google and there is no logo, just a black screen. Did hackers remove the logo? Heck, you can go to random sites on the world wide web and half of them are offline because of the SOAP.

I'm tired of these TERRORIST HACKERS destroying my computer. We need to pass a law to protect the internet from getting shut down by hackers. I have a lot of work that needs to be done today and I can't do it.

Can someone help? How do I access my email and the world wide web?

We talked about this last week Reverend. Remember? This is why I always make a hard copy of the World Wide Internet Web once a week and keep my CB Radio on and tuned to channel 9. We have to be prepared for these assaults and emergencies.

I'll load up the Interweb in the van and bring you a handie talkie.

I am with the Reverend. It's high time we got Congress to get off their butts and pass laws against this kind of nonsense. I saw call congress and DEMAND they pass a law protecting information on the internet!

Time to reclaim our FREEDOM from the “Mullah in Chief” and his growing activist voter hoards of socialists, communists, anti-Semites, anti-Christians, atheists, radical gays and lesbians, feminists, illegal immigrants, Muslims, anti-Anglo whites and others.

Re: HELP? Computer has a virus. Hackers took over the internet?

          I have good news, Jim.

It's a one-day "strike" by God-mockers like Reddit.com and boingboing.com. They have all redirected their sites to the "Stop SOPA" webpage.

I read an article last night and was able to find a cache of it. This explains what's going on (I'm going to quote the whole thing, since the site is blacked out, and it's an "announcement" anyway so should be fine under copyright law!):

On January 18, 2012, Secular News Daily will redirect to www.sopastrike.com. We'll be back on January 19.

We respect copyright. It is important that people who create are able to retain the rights to their work. Just as it is wrong to take someone's freshly-completed sculpture without compensation, it's wrong to take their writing, or their music, or their video.

But the Stop Online Piracy Act goes too far.

Rather than requiring an offended party to demonstrate that copyright has been infringed, SOPA will allow a complainant to demand that a site be effectively shut down without having proven any actual infringement.

For all intents and purposes, it turns American jurisprudence on its head -- site owners will be considered guilty until they can prove themselves innocent.

This article http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news/2011/10/house-takes-senates-bad-internet-censorship-bill-makes-it-worse.ars from ArsTechnica sums it up nicely. I'll quote a few passages, as is appropriate under Fair Use.

Any holder of intellectual property rights could simply send a letter to ad network operators like Google and to payment processors like MasterCard, Visa, and PayPal, demanding these companies cut off access to any site the IP holder names as an infringer.
          ...
So long as the intellectual property holders include some “specific facts” supporting their infringement claim, ad networks and payment processors will have five days to cut off contact with the website in question.
          No big deal . . . it's just money!

The provision of content takes time and money. If a site's income can be cut off entirely without due process based on specious claims, that means that anyone with a bone to pick can harass a site simply for posting content they don't like . . . leading to self-censorship of those who currently speak out, or the end of many sites.

A non-profit organization like Amnesty International could just as easily be targeted for harassment, leading to its inability to collect donations, perhaps during a major fund raising effort.

So take it offshore, what's the problem?

          They've thought of that.

Once you take your website offshore, things can really heat up:

The bill gives government lawyers the power to go to court and obtain an injunction against any foreign website based on a generally single-sided presentation to a judge. Once that happens, Internet providers have 5 days to “prevent access by its subscribers located within the United States to the foreign infringing site.”
That includes requiring your ISP blocking your access, and all search engines to remove the site from results. In effect, the site you wanted to read has just been "disappeared" from the Internet in the United States.

Are we in China? Do we want a censored Internet?

          I don't. I hope you don't, as well.

Tell your Representative and Senators today!

          http://sopastrike.com/strike/">http:...ke.com/strike/
Basically, a lot of God-mocking tards think that this nice law designed to stop people in China and Nigeria from selling pirated movies and music is going to be turned around to censor their 'free exchange of ideas'. (That is, their God-mockery and their attacks on [insert Republican nominee here].)

Frankly, if there were any possibility of a second term for Obama, I'd be a bit worried, myself. For example, this site might be targeted by the Obama regime! See, they can even apply it to user-contributed content -- like me quoting this article in full (except it's an announcement/press release, so it's OK) -- and take a site down.

But that won't happen. We'll use the Internet to spread the good word about [insert Republican nominee here] and make sure that this potentially abusive law is used only for good!

Except it would be in force before the election . . . Wait a minute . . .

What? Do you mean this abomination?

Dear Lord, I surely hope they can stop that!
