In today's environment of prohibition, assistance with drug abuse issues is difficult to obtain, so small problems don't get looked after until they become big problems. People know that even admitting they might have a problem will lead to job loss, alienation from support networks (friends, family, etc.), homelessness, etc.

As to some of the other points raised in this thread: Does not Genesis 1:29 imply that True Christians should eat every seed bearing plant? After all it is given to you for meat! God gave it to you, so it cannot possibly harm you (if you truly have faith). This includes poison oak, nightshade, etc. The only other possible explanation is that the Bible not entirely truthful.

And if nightshade, poison oak, etc. are harmful, why have they not been prohibited by the government? Surely the government wants nothing but to keep us safe. Why then would they continue to allow such things to grow wild in our fields and forests? Because if they're legal, that means they're safe; so munch away, James (or think for yourself <--- my choice).

The word for Cannabis in Hebrew is קַנַּבּוֹס Could you please point to the exact scripture that that word is found in the Old Testament. Because I can't find it.

Oh, and FYI there was no such thing as "pot" back then. People grew hemp for fiber. There's a huge difference between hemp and marijuana. Both are members of the cannabis family, the same that potatoes and nightshade are in the same family, but that does not make them the same plant. Unless of course you want a nice side of nightshade with your steak. In fact did you know that if you cross marijuana with hemp you end up with a mule plant? Look it up.

In order to get high, plants must have a minimum of 3% THC. Today's marijuana runs between 10-15% and hemp has 0.01-0.03%

So as far as I'm concerned, you can go smoke all the hemp you want, it's not a drug. The only reason the government doesn't want it is because we know damn well that that are "pro hemp" are really "pro marijuana". This is why they push the lie that they're both the same plant.

The word is קַנַּבּוֹס which means hemp, the known cannabis of that time. Marijuana in Hebrew is מריחואנה again, if the're the same plant, why are the two words so different?
