Where is there an attack on gender roles? A man has his place as head of the home and woman has hers, to serve the man. Simple and clear cut.
Isaiah 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.
Amos 3:6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?
Numbers 21:6 And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.
Matthew 10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
Matthew 10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
Matthew 10:36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.

How is that clear cut, the head of the family is not always the man, many societies are matriachal and not patriachal, italy for example, now thats not a good or bad thing...it just is...and thats how we should all live, let them live how they want and you how u want...and never the twain shall meet

they are people and you know it...there is no reasonable way in which you can say a woman is not a person, if the bible says that then you need to look at women with a better attitude

I think you are confusing "people" and "human". There is no doubt whatsoever that women are human, but they are possessions of a man. A woman is owned by her father or her husband.

If she has no father, then a brother will do (no matter how young), if no brother, then a grandparent. In the absence of all of these, she should look to the church.

However, if she is the widow of one man, then she is responsible for her own actions.

I'm sure you now see that this is both reasonable and generous.

All these discussions are so interesting. Thanks for the good time.
The bible is an interesting book, but metaphors in it should be replaced in context. Fortunately most human beings don't abide by every single word from the bible, coran, talmud, gautama's teachings, the golden hen's words, or whatever. As a lousy singer and poor historian (but quite good cook), I look back behind and see mainly wastefulness since women have been put out of the way and disrespected from time immemorial. Some of you prolong this sad philosophy quite zealously.
You come from cavemen or aliens or what else like the rest of us, and you know what, it's OK. Faith is of utmost importance in human nature, what you make of it tells much about who you are. Not that I'm trying to convince you of anything, for I know most of you have strong beliefs, and someone said it is not a place for debate. Well, too bad.
Matthew 5:37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.

And the answer to both your questions/innuendos is no.

JoeCool, listen up. We believe in God. We have repented our sins and live as He instructs us. Just because you hate God, is no reason to bad mouth our pure way of living.
Maybe, the whole concept is too difficult for you to grasp. I'll give you an analogy. The Bible is an instruction manual to life, just like a instruction manual may be how to build a shed. Both books cover the foundation, the walls to hold the roof up in the sky. You could skip the foundation (like failing to honestly repent) but when it rained, the shed would be filled with mud, just like your mind would be unclear due to having failed to repent. You could skip building the walls, which is like living a life with God at your side. You can live, but there will not be any one at your side to shelter you from the storm. You could skip the roof, but why you'd want to do that escapes me.

Bottom line is, to build the shed, you have to follow all of the instructions, not skipping a single step. If you do, your shed will have problems. The Bible is the same. You must follow every step. You cannot skip steps or you will have problems. You cannot just do the fun and easy parts and avoid the tough ones. Sorry is is not all gum drops and puppy dogs.
