Nonetheless, they don't assume an attack posture when dealing with other forum members. Granted, Mr. Much makes no apologies for being an atheist tending towards the "Dickovian" end of the scale. But at least his retorts have a cleverness about them. The unfortunate term "Suck on that" is juvenile and lacking in any nuance.

If I was any better, you would have thought this throught, opened your eyes and shut yourself out of this damned and dumb religion. Religion only brings chaos to this world, and if there were only the people who knew the truth about sciences being ultimately true then no one would fight anyone, there would be finally world peace. But instead, you hate, you preach "guns and glory" where it should be extended rights and lefts reaching out to help others up and out of their shit. So, if I am correct about the sciences that means that religion is just a stupid thing, made by men, for men, to oppress unwanted tendencies that might come up, like you oppress the people who try to open your (REFERENCE TO FORNICATION REMOVED) eyes to the truth that you are slaves to your own people. This is why you use cheating tactics like renaming people to represent what you fear: the truth of enlightened thinking, not just some order-following sheep who can be disciplined by a "God" that does not exist in the "High Heavens" and "Will come on the end of the world". That BS does not exist. Look in my signature. And then look around you. The stuff you see: the remains of a bunch of dead stars. Not film stars but the stars on the night sky that you think are just holes poked through by some unknown force in the "Heaven".

I wasn't going to do this, but I am forced to: I'll have to do what I deem right that might bring down the site. I just showed up here, looks pretty crazy.

I think you're saying a lot of good things. I think you should keep on saying them. Even if nobody's listening.

But the part I quoted kind of stuck out to me, because I think that there are a lot of similarities between what you're saying and how these folks got brainwashed to begin with.

Compare the simple version of Christianity: God will be your friend-- unless you mess with Him, at which point, yes, you'd better watch out.

But it's not just God, it's all of Landover together. I think that a lot of them found each other by saying exactly the same thing: that they'd be friends, but only if they agreed to believe exactly the same things; and clearly, you don't want to not be friends, because look at the kind of stuff they advocate for even mild failings, just really nasty violence. It's like the whole reason they got brainwashed was because they needed friends, and were really scared of being ostracized (and maybe pelted with stones.)

Even if I could convince these weirdos by doing that, I guess I wouldn't want to, you know? I don't know. There might not be any way to win. Sometimes, you just focus on keeping your head upright, you know?

Sorry if any of that's unwelcome. It just got me thinking is all.

Logic, Moi ? I suppose that I could use it, but the Bible doesn't really endorse it, so I tread very, very carefully in that area. Also, forgive me for beating a dead horse down to the point where we are knee deep in horse molecules, but this IS a Bible discussion forum. Quotes from Scripture are the currency here, so what else would you suggest that I "hurl around"?

And in case you didn't see the forest for the trees, all the "logic" that I employed was underscored by details taken from the Bible. I did not cite each individual verse, but I noted the book and chapters. That is how you engage in a productive discussion here.

There is no requirement here that a given poster like or agree with the Bible and its contents; we have atheist and Pastafarian forum members who are tolerated. But these individuals keep to the source material, i.e. The Holy Bible, when they post their sometimes opposing points of view.

The one point of view that they agree with us on is that everything in the Bible is to be given the same credence. In the case of atheists, that means no credence whatsoever. What our non-True Christian™ forum members do NOT do is serve up a low-fiber, over-sugared, air-puffed form of Christianity based on a few nice sounding Bible verses.

Much of the narratives and many of the Commandments in the Bible are hardly "nice". They know that, and so do we. In that sense, we are all among the "elevated".

Good job, you might even become one of the "elevated" and let go of religion completely! There is hope for you, I can see, but you keep denying it so well, I was getting convinced that there was no more hope, but you, dear Handmaiden, showed me that there is actually logical, thinking people amidst the black seas of ignorant blinds.

You meant the above as a compliment, but it is unnecessary. There have always been thinking people who face the Truth© of the Bible head on, without the rose-colored glasses. Then there are the oceans of people who snip and paste its contents, or the contents of other religious texts, to create a more accommodating religion that makes people like them.

We call these people, "Fluffy Bunnies". They may be nice and soft for hugging, but many people are allergic to their watered down philosophy and prefer straight up reality in their approach to religion.

Again, unnecessary. We know that plenty of people think religion is garbage. As I mentioned, some of those people post regularly on our forum. But they are very careful not to replace one type of garbage thinking with another type of garbage thinking.

Now, the only thing is that you give up your hate towards other religions.

A seriously committed adherent of any religion would make the effort to obey its precepts. If their God says do this and don't do that, they do do the first thing and don't do the second.

The Biblical God says hate (if you have read His Bible than you know He says it a lot) and His sincere followers hate. I don't take it personally when people from other faiths hate me; it's their job. I just keep doing what I do, discussing the Bible, and leave changing hearts and minds to a power other than my own.

The Muslim observance of Ramadan has begun. Would you barge into a mosque and start quoting science that fasting can be a health risk? Would you insist that their God isn't real and therefore their fasting is pointless?

You can have that discussion under some circumstances, but I wouldn't recommend having it in a mosque. More importantly, I wouldn't sit down on one of their prayer rugs and start chowing down on bacon right in front of them. But that is what many so-called "thinking" posters do when they come to our forum in response to a given thread that expresses a negative opinion about something that they like.

Also, how do you define "normal people?" We all have been indoctrinated one way or another since we were born. Hence, would you define "normal people" as "people who think the way I do?" And how would that stance make you different from a Bible-thumping Baptist?

Based on my ethnographic studies, they are definitely not manipulated by their pastors. You can, and you should, make that argument against every other Christian denomination in the world - as all other Christian churches do their best to highlight the parts of the Bible they like, and to hide/ignore the really ugly and cruel large chunks of it. And yes, followers of said denominations are definitely manipulated to think what their pastors/priests want them to think.

You are not merely being glib in an attempt to score points and "win" in a contest where communication is the actual goal. If one accepts the precedent that God, as known in the Bible, exists and that He gave humanity the Bible for the primary purpose of letting them know that He exists and the secondary purpose to understand His power and choose to obey Him, then it is absurd for any mere follower to pretend to subsume His power.

We can't send people to heaven or hell anymore than we wrote the Bible. We just relate what it actually says in its unexpunged contents. From there, everyone is on their own as to whether to believe and obey, or shrug and turn away.

What really, really burns our toast and leaves an unpleasant scent about the place is the fools who think they know and follow the Bible.

Many of the distressing topics you allude to are covered in the Bible and are not specifically condemned. They are codified, legislated as it were. They are set within a cultural standard that God not only endorses, but expressly commands.

I make no claim that rape is "okay" with me. Almost anyone in possession of an orifice that could be forcibly penetrated would agree it that it would likely be painful and humiliating.

God's Word touches upon the idea of a captured sex-slave being humbled, but the pain is never addressed. That person's designated status, as well as the status of the father of a virgin daughter who has been raped are addressed. Deuteronomy deals with the economic and social concerns of rape, not merely the moral aspects.

And in Deuteronomy 22, God makes it very clear that in certain locales, if a girl doesn't cry out, she's asking for it. The verses make no allowance for a girl not crying for help if the rapist is covering her mouth or holding a knife to her throat. If an omnipotent God arranged for His Holy Word to ignore such possibilities, then clearly it doesn't signify with Him.

Generally speaking, I don't waste my time arguing with Omnipotent Beings.

Wow. You've put a LOT of thought into seeing me suffer some horrible fates. You may have more in common with some of the people I know who call themselves Christian than you realize. Perhaps that should give you pause?

Again this is getting WAY graphic and dark. You really have read the Bible, haven't you? And you've absorbed some of its core components. Nobody messes with me and mine. Rape one of my women and you pay in blood. Rape someone else and I may not get too worked up.

For illustration, read Judges 19-21. The juicy parts start when some dude tosses his girlfriend out to a crowd to be raped while he gets a good night's sleep. (You would never do that, I'm sure.) The next morning, she's lying on the doorstep and he nudges her to get up and climb on the donkey so that they can get going. Turns out that she's dead.

From there the story gets more complicated and a whole lot of people get slaughtered, including any women who are clearly not virgins, i.e. those pregnant or breast-feeding.

But the virgin girls are spared so that they can be married off (presumably whether they liked it or not) to a bunch of guys who needed pure wives so that their tribe could continue in order to fulfill God's Big Plans for His Chosen People.

Nowhere in this narrative does God speak out in condemnation of the guy who threw his girlfriend out to be raped to death. This is because she was his property and the financial issues had been resolved.

Now, the reason that guy got upset was because they raped her to the point of uselessness. (He actually cut up her corpse to make that point.)

The men who did the deed were killed--which presumably meets with your approval-- but so was nearly everybody else in the town where they lived.

Again, God doesn't speak directly on this issue. He also doesn't make any noise about all the men, boys and married women who get slaughtered when the virgins are being collected for marriage/rape/slavery, depending on how you want to look at it.

But that fellow whose chica was raped did get his revenge. Clearly, he wasn't going to let anybody mess with his relatives. (Beyond letting his woman be gang raped. But if you read the story you will see that he was only protecting himself and his host's virgin daughter which was very empathetic of him.)

It's possible that the men in that town who got slaughtered (not the rapists' town; this was the town where none of the men joined the attack to kill everybody in the rapists' town) didn't want anyone to f#ck with their relatives, as you so charmingly put it.

But that didn't work out very well for them because they weren't suitably incensed enough to go and kill all the relatives of the men who f#cked (literally) with that other guy's relative.

Whew, at this point, I don't blame you if you are confused. You really need to read the story for yourself. It's just one of the many uplifting tales of morality that the Bible offers. I'm pretty sure that it makes the point that people need God's Commands to offer them social control.

I'm not the scriptural expert many of the Brothers are, but I think that if some of the rules in Deuteronomy had been followed, a fine could have been paid and at least a few lives might have been spared. Not the woman who was raped, though. The narrative makes it fairly clear that she was asking for trouble.

Again this is getting WAY graphic and dark. You really have read the Bible, haven't you? And you've absorbed some of its core components. Nobody messes with me and mine. Rape one of my women and you pay in blood. Rape someone else and I may not get too worked up.

For illustration, read Judges 19-21. The juicy parts start when some dude tosses his girlfriend out to a crowd to be raped while he gets a good night's sleep. (You would never do that, I'm sure.) The next morning, she's lying on the doorstep and he nudges her to get up and climb on the donkey so that they can get going. Turns out that she's dead.

From there the story gets more complicated and a whole lot of people get slaughtered, including any women who are clearly not virgins, i.e. those pregnant or breast-feeding.

But the virgin girls are spared so that they can be married off (presumably whether they liked it or not) to a bunch of guys who needed pure wives so that their tribe could continue in order to fulfill God's Big Plans for His Chosen People.

Nowhere in this narrative does God speak out in condemnation of the guy who threw his girlfriend out to be raped to death. This is because she was his property and the financial issues had been resolved.

Now, the reason that guy got upset was because they raped her to the point of uselessness. (He actually cut up her corpse to make that point.)

The men who did the deed were killed--which presumably meets with your approval-- but so was nearly everybody else in the town where they lived.

Again, God doesn't speak directly on this issue. He also doesn't make any noise about all the men, boys and married women who get slaughtered when the virgins are being collected for marriage/rape/slavery, depending on how you want to look at it.

But that fellow whose chica was raped did get his revenge. Clearly, he wasn't going to let anybody mess with his relatives. (Beyond letting his woman be gang raped. But if you read the story you will see that he was only protecting himself and his host's virgin daughter which was very empathetic of him.)

It's possible that the men in that town who got slaughtered (not the rapists' town; this was the town where none of the men joined the attack to kill everybody in the rapists' town) didn't want anyone to f#ck with their relatives, as you so charmingly put it.

But that didn't work out very well for them because they weren't suitably incensed enough to go and kill all the relatives of the men who f#cked (literally) with that other guy's relative.

Whew, at this point, I don't blame you if you are confused. You really need to read the story for yourself. It's just one of the many uplifting tales of morality that the Bible offers. I'm pretty sure that it makes the point that people need God's Commands to offer them social control.

I'm not the scriptural expert many of the Brothers are, but I think that if some of the rules in Deuteronomy had been followed, a fine could have been paid and at least a few lives might have been spared. Not the woman who was raped, though. The narrative makes it fairly clear that she was asking for trouble.

Again, can't argue with that. What's really interesting is that those are mix and match options. People can be enslaved by gaming addictions as well as religions. They can laugh or hate regardless of whether they believe in a religion or not. And people who spit upon others for any reason are distasteful in the extreme.

I hope you can see, from the selected quote, how it has nothing to do with the conversation we're currently having. Except, maybe, that it involves confused people.

Ask Jesus Christ to come into your heart and guide your life with His light. Then, ask yourself, "Is my life improved by Christ's wisdom?" If the answer is no, it's because you didn't really ask Christ to come into your heart. Do it until you get it right.

Jesus did come to my heart, when I was young. Do you know, what happened then? He destroyed every single hope of mine. He for apart my dreams like you tear apart a piece of paper. He left nothing than destruction and chaos everywhere in my heart. And then, he left. Suddenly and without a word. I was devastated, and then I picked up a book called "Origin of Species" by none other than Charles Darwin. I was enlightened by science, and while I do not believe in any deity, I believe in kindness and a lot of other feelings that are coming from my personal experience. Thus, religion, as a whole, became obsolete for me. Religion was nothing more than a joke for me to have a good laugh at it. And do you know what do I find simultaneously funny and horrible? The indoctrination that causes people to blindly believe in something the normal people would never do.

Hello there, Roland. You seem nice, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. I have read the bible. Multiple times. I have never shown more interest in reading it as more than a storybook. I never said that "This holds such a meaning that I must deny myself and drop down to my knees and worship someone who, I don't think, exists." Sorry to destroy anything that is religious, but the most efficient way of controlling people is through religion.
