The game definitely has nothing to do with slavery, or sexism, or some prediction of what the world would look like in the future. Sure, there can be unsavory experiences when one joins or hosts a server. These experiences are not unlike using the internet or walking around a public space. Unsavory people doing unsavory things are everywhere.

Online multiplayer can easily be avoided in this game to still receive the full enjoyment of the game. I suppose you may have issue with the zombies, spiders, creepers, skeletons, and other creatures in the game (and the implication that you must kill them). One can simply turn these off by playing in "Creative" mode or setting the difficulty to "Peaceful" when in "Survival" mode.

With these two issues out of the way, the true beauty of the game comes through. Minecraft is about pure creativity and discovery; wandering around through caves; building amazing structures; composing songs; etc. I often liken Minecraft to digital Legos, where you are free to construct and build anything you can dream of. In this sense, Minecraft is no more harmful than paint and canvas, a lump of clay and a potter's wheel, or a block of stone and a chisel. Minecraft is purely a tool for creation.

Any tool can be used for ill. I acknowledged some of the "evils" in the game and presented a way to enjoy the game without engaging in these evils. Just because the game has some element of evil does not mean it should be avoided. You could, for example, use your computer to watch porn, run a business that takes advantage of ill-advised people, or download a copy of An Anarchist's Playbook. Or, you can run a forum to discuss your faith and society with other individuals, order a pizza, donate to charity, or other similar causes. Take every day life as another example. You could, conceivably, walk down the street, punch the first person you saw, steal their car, drive to a strip club, and run away to Mexico with someone you met there. Or, you could take your family on a nice vacation somewhere.

Minecraft may present just another example of how one may choose their own way of navigating through the world. If you join a multiplayer server with individuals you do not like, simply disconnect and find a new one. The users of this forum could start their own Minecraft server to play on and to encourage their children/families to play on. Like this forum, the users of that server can easily be moderated to filter out less-than-desirable individuals to ensure the server community remains pure.

....... come on guys... this game has nothing to do with any theological topics at all... when you extrapolate and pretend there are correlations between what God's word really is, and things like this game, you start to sound just ridiculous. I agree with some points and disagree with others. Minecraft does not brainwash children. In fact its kind of like legos! My argument is that it is only a video game. That if any evil comes off from the franchise. It is the fans that are responsible. As for your point on how it teaches children to make their own food instead of eating McDonald's...well in my opinion I would rather eat the vegetables that come from God's green earth than the man made food that comes from a multi-billion franchise. Which is truly more evil? The food God provides or chicken nuggets from McDonald which aren't even made of chicken. EWW!

I really hope you people are just joking. I'm a gamer and I think games (depending which game it is) are art. I personally love the games from my childhood like jak & daxter 1 2 & 3 and zone of the enders. Games today are good. And I putty thouse who think games cause violence. For thouse who remember the school shooting almost a year ago new outlets said dynasty warriors caused his outburst. To gamers that alone is a joke. Not the event but the game they tried to blame. The closest to a gun you can get in that game is a wooden cannon.
