This site confuses me. I thought we were suppose to love everyone no matter what they are. I have some Gay friends who I love because of who they are not because of their sexual orientation...

Gay people should have EVERY RIGHT that straight people have. It's crazy and hypocritical to withhold rights from someone because of some ignorant politicians. If this is not a religious issue, then please enlighten me as to what these people are using as their backing for discrimination. And as far as religion is concerned, Christianity is used to dictate far too many decisions in this country and it doesn't seem very "Christian-like" to withhold rights from and entire group of people and treat them like second-class citizens.
Go figure.
I would love to dedicate my career to this cause. I'm in pre-law and hope to go to law school and work for causes such as this one.Comment

It may not be a religious issue, but it is an is of the religion clauses of the 1st amendment. It is also obvioulsy a 14th amendment issue. Putting aside the fanaticals on both sides, the main stream objectors are afraid that is legalized, their churches will be subject to law suits if they refuse to perform SSM on religious grounds. On the flip side of that is that by casting votes against SSM, based upon a religious position, such people mix the affairs of the state with the affairs of the church. To me this is a danger to everyone. It risks removing the protections which are given by keeping the church and the state separate. One that is risked, than yes, fearing the government will dictate to the church is a real fear and those lawsuit fears will become legitimate. However, by voting to keep the two separateed, it protects both the peoples freedom from the requirements of a church and the church from government intervention, including such civil lawsuits. Then there is the issue of believing that one can vote away civil rights. One can go through the motions, but ultimately it is a waste of money and valuable time and energy. Other than a constitutional amendment (which are not supposed to be used to limit rights, but rather to expand the people's rights), such a vote for legislation can be challenges as unconstitutional and therefore, struck down and rendered illegal, unenforceable and ultimately have wasted everyone's money. This is a nation of Constitutional rule, not majority rule!Comment
