In an attempt to see just how correct I was, I looked at this page. God lead me there because not only does it say that Greece was under the Turks for hundreds of years, it was only in the early 19th century that, thanks to godless Brits of all people, Greece became independent. The Greeks would have never made it on their own.

If you look at the page there’s some fat chap with a Greek moustace (it probably is there to remind him of his mother) and a song. Let me quote you a line or two:

Σπηλιας ν κατοικομε, ν βλέπωμεν κλαδιά,
        ν φεύγωμ᾿ π᾿ τν κόσμον, γι τν πικρ σκλαβιά;
        or, in American:
Shall we dwell in caves, looking out on branches,
Fleeing from the world on account of bitter serfdom?

Tell me Stellios, what was that you were saying about my distant ancestors living in caves? It looks like your grandfather spent his time in a cave and ran away from everyone. I’ve seen 6 year old girls in Bible Class with more courage.

And being saved by the Brits, whose asses America kicked before there was a modern Greece, is just appalling!

I don’t think you can live forever on stories of past glories – it’s time to face the truth.

          Some FACTS about Greece:
          • The food is garbage. Feta Cheese is like wet pieces of styrofoam compared to the glory that is America's Cheez Whiz.
          • All those philosophers they're so proud of? Pedophiles. All of them.
          • And as for military prowess, who have they conquered in the last 2000 years? Other than massacreing the Armenians, and those guys are wimps.
          • Ever heard of any good movies from Greece? The only watchable one was Disney's Hercules. It was only okay.
          • And the Iliad? Come on, it's just a bunch of spearchuckers chucking spears at each other. It's no better than rap.
          • And what's with the long, long last names? Trying to compensate for something being short?

            Re: Greetings from Greece

Ok,now some guys should get off their trees and be given some facts.

First of all,the poem is called Θούριος,and since your only contribution to the civilised world is Big Mac,you wouldn't see a good poem if it hit you in the face with a club.
Your translation is extremely inacurrate(maybe King James would do better)

Σπηλιας ν κατοικομε, ν βλέπωμεν κλαδιά,
            ν φεύγωμ᾿ π᾿ τν κόσμον, γι τν πικρ σκλαβιά;

            in English,that's

Should we live in caves, only see branches,
and die,or be under bitter slavery?

And the next two lines give the answer:

            Καλύτερα μιας ώρας ελεύθερη ζωη,
παρά σαράντα χρόνια σκλαβιά και φυλακή.

Which means:It's better to live for one hour free,
than spend 40 years under slavery and in prison.

So,it kinda says that my ancestors would rather die and live in the wild than become slaves. Not really pathetic,I'd say.

            • The food is garbage. Feta Cheese is like wet pieces of styrofoam compared to the glory that is America's Cheez Whiz.
            Cheez Whiz isn't even cheese.It's synthetic.Feta rulz.
            • All those philosophers they're so proud of? Pedophiles. All of them.
            No philosophers whatsoever?Nor history?Too bad...
            • And as for military prowess, who have they conquered in the last 2000 years? Other than massacreing the Armenians, and those guys are wimps.
The turks massacred the Armenians, how inacurrate can you be???However,we did kick some ass in both World Wars and the years before that.Google it.
            • Ever heard of any good movies from Greece? The only watchable one was Disney's Hercules. It was only okay.
Disney's hercules isn't a movie produced in Greece,it's about Greece. There are a lot of movies about Greece

            -Alexander
            -300
            -Troy

Oh and Xena, the warrior princess(she's not a real person though, never was)
            • And the Iliad? Come on, it's just a bunch of spearchuckers chucking spears at each other. It's no better than rap.
That's right, that's why everybody sees it as the first great mental work of Man.That's why it's kept as a cultural treasure through out the ages and taught today at schools everywhere.
            • And what's with the long, long last names? Trying to compensate for something being short?
Well, you know, last names give an amount of information about the family's history(or maybe you don't).So I take it that we have a long history.
And you wouldn't want to insult your fellow brother for one's equipment being short or long,he's actually trying to make his shorter.

Ever heard about "Passion of the Christ"? It's based on a greek book. And Disney's Hercules hasn't anything to do with us.And it's correct spelling is Heracles.

What's your age?8???You are one of the few people that think Iliad is crap.I presume that you judje it without having read a single wotd out of it.That's just your opinion.Just like assholes, everyone has one. And please clarify it's connection with rap music cause i don't see it.

Having long last names counts as an act of evil,or stupidity or whatever?Where is a bad thing at having a long name(and i believe our last names are ok)? Or did you ran out of ideas of what crap to say?

You sure are stuck on the past. I guess if my country had degraded to the poor state of modern greece I'd be trying to relive old glory days as well.

Well according to your scientist the people who live in Greece now are not related to the ancient Greeks. DNA studies claim that the descendants of the ancient Greeks are all in Yugoslavia now. The modern Greeks are a Turkish bastard race. Kinda like the eye-talians are an A-rab bastard race. This is what I've heard anyway.

My guess is that they just too a look at how greasy, oily, brown skinned and unhygienic you are and put two and two together. They are always tooting this so-called DNA.
