For starters, MCR is an emo band not a 'gothic' band, Marilyn Manson is shock rock and Evanescence is 'nu-goth'.

If you want to listen to 'real gothic music' and it's cousins I have several recommendations:

80s Goth: Bauhaus, The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees

Deathrock: Cinema Strange, Tragic Black, Christian Death, Shadow Project

Gothic/ Symphonic Metal: Tristania, Theatre of Tragedy, Epica

EBM (Electronic Body Music): Covenant, Apoptygma Berzerk,

Industrial: KMFDM, Android Lust, Wumpscut

Darkwave: Clan of Xymox, Diary of Dreams, Clair Voyant, The Cruxshadows

You know what? You know what?! Amy Lee is a beautiful woman with a beautiful voice. True enough that almost every Evanescense song sounds the same and the lyrics are... Well... They could be better, let's leave it at that... But that doesn't mean anything about the people who like the band. Just because someone listens to Evanescense they can't be Goth? Whatever. And Marylin Manson is a sexy man with a sexy voice and an enviable vocal range. So what if he doesn't really schock or offend anyone anymore, or if he's getting a tad commercialized? Who f*cking cares? Why does that matter? It doesn't. God, this is exactly the kind of behavior that makes every other Goth out there so.... So... I personally have nothing against people who listen to those bands among other music (one of my good friends occasionally listens to Mr Manson and another friend who is just as elitist as me likes MCR) it's just when they're the only 'gothic' bands a person listens to and they call themself a goth.

Who said goths were anti-conformist anyway? Conformity is unevitable no matter what society you're in. By wearing a shirt you're conforming to everyone else who wears shirts .etc. It's possible to be individual, but not a non-conformist.

As a conclusion, the general definition of goth is "A person who finds beauty in the mysterious and macabre" therefore proving that are hundreds of types of goth.

P.S I was probably also rather cranky the day I posted that music list.

There are so many other types of music and so many other amazing aside from what you listed, though. Kaizer's Orchestra f*cking rocks (they're from Norway and they sing in Norwegian, so nobody in North-America listens to them) and they don't fit into any of the categories you gave Fallen.

I need variety in my music and no one can use the music to which I choose to listen to determine whether or not I'm Goth. That's a retarded way to do things. "She's dancing to DJ Mystic, she must be a raver," "She's singing to Aqua, she must be pop," --- Do you see the retardedness there?

I don't think that definition is correct, and I'm not sure that there even can be a correct definition of what a Goth is by using their interests. Personally, I think that if a person can turly identify with the word 'Goth' (if they can read the word and go, "Yeah, that's me, that's part of who I am,") and considers her/himself to fit with her/his own definition of what 'Goth' is, then they are.
