'Devon' is not my name, it is the country in which I live, and my profile clearly says I'm British, and I think I even said I was British in my first post. I understand English thanks, I'm a writer, you do not need to insult me.

The country of Devon. That's cute. Are you the King?

Re: Horrified, appalled? I'm hoping this isn't a real church.
Probably not. But Devon is "appalled and horrified" by this church. I wonder why. Maybe because Devon truly doesn't understand the bible, and is embarrassed by the fact that he don't know as much as he thinks he does.Originally posted by Nobar King View PostI'm just curious if Devon has been visiting the Jewish and Muslim chat rooms today to tell them that they're doing it wrong, too, since he seems to know so much about his faith.

[COLOR="rgb(65, 105, 225)"]I'll be talking to Jesus and my own pastor, thanks, . . . your pastors are . . . scary, in short. Anyone who would condone, let alone commit, abuse and torture isn't the kind of person I'd want to talk to, to be honest. Re: Horrified, appalled? I'm hoping this isn't a real church.
Hello, Devon.
Glad to run into a fellow Christian visitor! We get so many unsaved persons here who seem to think that insulting us is going to get us to turn our lives away from Jesus; the Devil never stops tempting us, does he? It's nice to finally run into someone who, though you may disagree with some of our views, at least does so respectfully and from the point of view of loving God Almighty and seeing that the Bible is God's Truth.
I believe that you are wrong about our church, and I look forward to working with you to see how the Bible tells us we Christians must live our lives. Perhaps we can learn from each other.
Perhaps the first thing we need to do, however, is to clarify what it is that we actually believe. I am sure you agree with us that God is Love. However, I think you are operating under a misconception about how that Love manifests itself and why Jesus spoke in the way that He did. In your view, does Jesus want everyone to be saved?
YIC

@Old Man - 'Yes, Jesus did sometimes speak in parables. But when He did it is explicitly mentioned as such in the Holy Bible. What you are doing is adding your own interpretation to the Holy Bible. That is not how it works. It is not even allowed.'
I am not adding anything, I am understanding.
'God determined what is in the Holy Bible, not the people who wrote it down. You can compare it to your keyboard. It plays a role in your postings but you are the one determining what is typed.'
Then why are there obvious differences in writing styles of the different authors? God determined what they wrote, yes, but how they wrote? What of the poetry in the Bible? The letters?
My keyboard, though, does not always type how I intend, or how I would speak.

@ Old Man - I'm aware of that, but what some of the members here do is not of God, and Jesus spoke in parables. How are you to know he meant we were to physically cut off someone's hand (I know someone on this forum wanted to castrate their son!) when the stories of farmers and seeds were metaphors for how were are to live our lives and respond to God, and how God loves us? This is the problem with literal thinking, ancient writers often used metaphor, etc.
@ Rodimer - I will not have a scripture war with you, sorry. It is late, and I am upset enough as it is, without being flamed further for my views on scripture, which, no doubt, will differ to yours. It is pointless, and exhaustive.
@ Levi - 'show don't tell' - I read a great many thread tonight with scriptures used incorrectly to back a point left-right-and-centre. I see no point in referencing if your forum is full of it, just look yourself in the spirit and you will see. I have more to do with my time than argue with people who are blind.
Those verses you quoted only serve in patronising me. I know them, I know the Bible well. I know what Jesus said, I know the Word. Jesus didn't abolish the law, his example and teaching shows us how they changed, and because of his sacrifice.
'Is God's Word imprinted on every mind?' YES. It is in the love of the Spirit, which knocks on all hearts. If you listen and open your eyes, you will see and hear, but until you accept Jesus into your life, you are blind and deaf. (I'm not going to go find the quote, btw)

Deuteronomy 4:2 "Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you."
Revelation 22:18-19 "For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book."
Psalm 12:6-7 "The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever."
God determined what is in the Holy Bible, not the people who wrote it down. You can compare it to your keyboard. It plays a role in your postings but you are the one determining what is typed.ancient writers often used metaphor, etc.
2nd Timothy 3:16 "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness"
Please note is says all. This means there is not a single line of text in the Holy Bible that has not been determined by God!

Devon--Thank you for introducing yourself. I'm so glad you found our site. It is obvious from your lack of Biblical understanding that you are in need of the friendship and guidence you can receive here.Originally posted by Devon~ View Post
Your forums almost made me cry in many places. Your opinions of women are so . . . stereotyped - if you believe women are so useless, as you so often glibly quote, and I'm not denying that women aren't to be respectful of their husbands - then what of all the strong women like Esther and Ruth in the Bible who do such amazing things for God? The Bible tells of many strong women who defy men fin the name of God. Jesus did not consider women useless, and he did not call the 'whores' or judge them on their sins as people here do - he simply loved them and they responded to that love.
I hate to say it, and I have no doubt I'll receive a rather colourful flaming for it,
Since there is so much for you to learn here, we cannot cover it all in one, or even several, posts. So, I just going to cover one tiny corner. It's your reference to the proper place of women as evisioned by God, and our Savior, Jesus Christ.
I know you will agree that the Ten Commandments were written by God. So what was the place of wives, and by inference, women in general? They were placed in the same category as slaves and farm animals. They were, and are, the property of men.
Please keep in touch with us and learn from our true and accurate knowledge of the Bible.
Thank you again for introducing yourself.
