As for the "few inspiring lines" I'd like to correct you and say there's thousands of inspiring lines. I think that you really should read the Bible before you judge it.

First 'Catcher in the Rye' is a fiction story, no one would believe in it in the first place. Maybe the bible is a fiction story, who knows, it doesn't says it's a non-fiction.

Second, I indeed BELIEVE in nothing, I only want to understand how the world works and sympathise with other people that have different views (to learn from other's experience). You apparently just threaten me of eternal damnation. I want only want to KNOW how things work, I am not person who has blind faith in something that can't be visible, feeled, measured, exposed, theorized (scientifically, by the scientific method) or even rationally explained (only use of logic).

By the way, "few lines", yeah they're are many "lines" indeed, but only a few good ones (that can been actually used in real life).

What you really mean is that you don't believe it. In fact Catcher in the Rye is part autobiographical and part taken from actual events and actual people in Salinger's life. You could avoid looking stupid by typing less and reading more.

You have stated that before. It must really be sad that you don't even believe in yourself. But actually you are lying. You have already averred that you believe in heathen scientists.

So you don't believe in your own existence? I wish you were right about that because then we wouldn't have to listen to your brainless rambling.

          Re: Hello from an atheist.

I have indeed never read that book (I searched for that book, the site said it was a fiction, not my fault), so what, my point stays the same.

By the way, must I believe to exist? Ik know I exist, Believing is having trust without proof, so you're saying that I have no proof of my existing but I must trust in it?

And this is the same for the other scientists, I don't believe them, I listen to them and I try to understand and to learn, and too see if it can be true with the reality.

And I will say it again, Believing is having trust without proof, I don't do that.

The point is that you should try learning a few things instead of just going on what someone tells you.

You're mixing up faith with belief here.
And this is the same for the other scientists, I don't believe them, I listen to them and I try to understand and to learn, and too see if it can be true with the reality.
Right. Just like how you rigourously investigated Catcher in the Rye, eh?
And I will say it again, Believing is having trust without proof, I don't do that.
And I will say it again, you're mixing up belief with faith, and you clearly do have faith in some things.
O Lord our God, help us to tear their soldiers to bloody shreds with our shells; help us to cover their smiling fields with the pale forms of their patriot dead; help us to drown the thunder of the guns with the shrieks of their wounded, writhing in pain; help us to lay waste their humble homes with a hurricane of fire; help us to wring the hearts of their unoffending widows with unavailing grief; help us to turn them out roofless with little children to wander unfriended the wastes of their desolated land in rags and hunger and thirst, sports of the sun flames of summer and the icy winds of winter, broken in spirit, worn with travail, imploring Thee for the refuge of the grave and denied it--for our sakes who adore Thee, Lord, blast their hopes, blight their lives, protract their bitter pilgrimage, make heavy their steps, water their way with their tears, stain the white snow with the blood of their wounded feet! We ask it, in the spirit of love, of Him Who is the Source of Love, and Who is the ever-faithful refuge and friend of all that are sore beset and seek His aid with humble and contrite hearts. Amen.

God being truth, justice, goodness, beauty, power, and life, man is falsehood, iniquity, evil, ugliness, impotence, and death. God being master, man is the slave. Incapable of finding justice, truth, and eternal life by his own effort, he can attain them only through a divine revelation... he who desires to worship God must harbor no childish illusions about the matter, but bravely renounce his liberty and humanity.

Believe is realizing Jesus really exists. Faith is trusting Jesus and letting him guide your life completely and without ever questioning His infinite wisdom.

that's weird, another christian once told :

"Belief is pretty much based on the fact that you’re confident you will achieve your goals. That belief can be based on past experience, logic, or just the fact that you know somebody who achieved a similar goal.
Faith on the other hand, usually brings along with it the implication that it’s needed to achieve those goals that seem out of reach, hence hearing phrases like “taking a leap of faith” when it comes to those types of situations. In other words, that term is usually used in the context of achieving extraordinary goals."

Context of extraordinary goals? Not always.

Here's the two words being used in actual sentences:

I believe that the anyone who likes soccer is a homosexual.
(it is based on facts, like you said)

I have faith that I will convert this unsaved trash.
(it is based on the belief of my confidence to help save unsaved trash.)

I'm very confused by your posts because you just contradicted yourself and more or less just said he was right while implying he was wrong. Are you unable to comprehend what you cut and paste from Jackie Chan's website???

Believing is pretty much a synonym for just thinking something; faith only comes into play when you believe something that there's no real "evidence" in the secular sense for.

It IS! Except they become atheists, not scientists.

A few years ago, several children in my congregation were going to public schools. Parents came to me and complained that, upon reading their eighth-grade biology book, their children were coming home and declaring themselves Darwinists and atheists and Marxists, claiming God didn't exist and "evolution" proved it, and that people had no right to private property!

These days, no children in my congregation attend public schools. The church runs a school for them, where they learn all about Creation!

School, perhaps? Law dictates that children are to receive schooling regardless of interest.
I ain't ever read a science book, ever. Just because you have bad parents who won't give you the proper and necessary homeschooling a child needs, it doesn't mean you have to read science books. The way I look at it is would I rather have bad grades or deal with temptations of the Devil that could lead to the wrath of God? Easy one! Bad grades.
