I'm not going to deny that I may be guided here by a spirit. However, my own awareness (which is unlikely to notice the presence of a spiritual guide) is telling me I'm here for two reasons.

One, I would like to learn about your religion. You see, the kinds of Christian I meet on a daily basis are mostly Protestants. I'm not going to lecture you on their beliefs - you likely know a lot more of them than I do, however the fact of the matter is, they're a whole different breed to yourselves.

I've spent most of my life pursuing knowledge of any form - be that knowledge of people's cultures, knowledge of scientific theory, knowledge of engineering, mathematics... The list goes on. However, I know little of your ways.

I'm not going to ask any specific questions about your views, beliefs or culture, since you know what is most important, and I imagine you've explained these things often enough to know the best way to do so.

So please, I'm here to listen.

I'm confused by a couple of things here.

First, what exactly IS a "militant atheist" ? Atheists either (a) don't personally believe in God, or (b) don't believe there is a God. It seems that in either case, there is no need for militancy at all; it's simply a personal choice for Eternal Damnation© that you are free to make.

Second, when you say your "mind has since opened somewhat" do you mean that you are opening your mind to Eternal Salvation through Jesus Christ©, or do you simply mean that you now aren't as condescending (or judgmental, or pitying, etc.) toward fools like me who will spend eternity in Heaven?

Perhaps I chose my words poorly. When I say militant atheist I was referring to the fact that I defended my views with as much - if not more - zeal than you do yours, and I didn't only do so in my own forum. I was what you call a troll, I would sign up on forums such as these with no intention other than to argue my beliefs with people who have no reason to listen.

Regarding your second question, the latter is correct. I believe the term that I would have used for my previous attitude toward religious believers of any sort would be condescending, or pitying as per your suggestions, but I have learned to treat others beliefs with much more respect of late.

And finally, I'd like to thank you Mr Smyth for a respectful greeting.

Do you constantly try to force your viewpoint on others, even when they politely ask you to leave them alone? Do you stand on benches on the streets and use a bull horn to inflict you opinions on others? Do you go on websites that are contrary to your beliefs and try to make the people there agree with you?

To answer your questions in order:
I have to defend myself because - as is your community here - I am occasionally criticised for my views. I don't attack anyone else's opinions however.
Do I attempt to force my viewpoint on others? Never, even before they politely ask me to leave them alone. I am totally happy for anyone to believe exactly what they want to believe. Once, I would question people's decisions to put their faith in a deity, however I have since grown out of such an immature stance. Whilst I appreciate that many of you do not want me here, I did only register and initiate conversation on the basis of information presented to me by your own site.
And, to answer your final question: Do I think it is wrong that the world has people different to me? In certain respects. I think it is wrong that the world has people who have no respect for human life, or people who have no respect for those around them. However, I have no problem with people having different beliefs to myself. If someone wants to believe in a ball of spaghetti in the sky, that's their choice and I won't condemn them for it. Any condemning will be done by someone (or perhaps, something) in a position to do so, which I'm not.

And finally, for Rev. Modimer.
What I said regarding the Christians I know wasn't intended to get anyone here riled. I'll be blunt, I don't know much about your beliefs, just that they differ wildly from the beliefs of the Christians where I live. Everyone in my area is of the opinion that God loves everyone, forgives everything, etc. I've noticed from some of the scripture quotes you folks frequently use that you don't exactly share that opinion of your Lord. Your forum is the first chance I've had to share any sort of conversation with views such as yours, hence my presence.

And now, I would like to confirm that unless I'm asked any more questions I shall take my leave from your place. I will still browse and study quietly in the background though, as was my original intention. That is to say, if you want me to stop posting, stop asking me questions. It seems many of you would prefer it that way.
