Re: A christian engineer writes...
So, what was my mother doing during my early life?
Much of what I know about the behaviour of women stems from my early life. Although my maternal grandfather was a strong man, there was no question in the immediate following generation that women were going to have their say.
Men earned the money in the world of work, women raided the children. The problem was, that infant mortality rates were far lower than they had been in the past. With the drastic drop in infant mortality rates, women no longer had to expend their entire lives raising children in the hpe that a precious few would survive to adulthood.
A question was asked: "didn't your mother stay home to nurture you?" Indeed she did. I was my parents' first bourne. However, much of the womens' movement in the UK during WW1 and WW2 dictated that women must expend their expetise to build war weapons to ensure their children would have a future. The idea that women must work in Europe stems directly from WW2. Women worked hard to build tanks amd planes and guns to ensure that "Christian Civilisation" prevailed.
Discusion of the Christianised and militarised soldiers from whom I am directly descended are not of direct relevance to these forums. These men and women fought in World War Two did what they thought was right. Whenever a woman goes to work in the UK in the hope of making a better life for her descendants, she is not a God hater. She is following in the footsteps of the women who sent their children away as evacuees, while they faced certain death in the face of Nazi bombing campaigns.
