I didn't think this was the thread to discuss this, I wasn't planning to today.
However, that was part of my username! Siding with the 'antagonist' of the song, the Priests of Syrinx prevented the descent into madness and suicide that was later portrayed by the unnamed protagonist of the song. They are preventing the same ordeal to be cast out onto their society. Combined with the ideas of the collectivist mentality, the futuristic elements, and restriction of the self, these priests aren't half bad.
However, the Soviet symbolism and the takedown "assuming control" by the higher power is also up for discussion. So they cannot always be good. There is something to take away from both sides, but I prefer the suppression of the Priests.
The username works on many levels, I didn't mean the fuss.
