What do you learn about God from the Garden of Eden, in which Adam and Eve couldn't know right from wrong until they'd eaten the fruit from the forbidden tree?

I don't think you've gotten to Jacob and Esau yet. Of that pair, what attributes of Jacob do you think God liked so He chose Jacob over Esau?
It's a sad topic to speak on. He only had a handful of people working for him so he couldn't really save them

The Garden of Eden? God loves us and doesn’t leave us. The driving out could’ve also been a form of discipline. But it’s a short story so I can’t come up with a long answer.

    Jacob and Esau?
Esau was a cunning hunter, favored by his father, didn't see the importance of his birthright, got angry and plotted to kill his brother after having his blessing stolen.

Jacob was an ordinary man, favored by his mother, had gifts and a heart that were in the wrong place and he obeyed his parents... but God put him in a place where only honesty could help him.

You know, I think I might take a chance and give my life to Jesus. Can anyone show me how this is done?

          That's a good point!

I'm glad not to hear you going on and on about how "well, if they didn't know right from wrong before eating from the tree, they couldn't know it was wrong to disobey God, therefore couldn't have sinned"! You have no idea how often we hear that.

          Jacob and Esau?
Esau was a cunning hunter, favored by his father, didn't see the importance of his birthright, got angry and plotted to kill his brother after having his blessing stolen.

I'm so glad you see it that way! Because we keep hearing people yammer about how Jacob schemed with his mother to steal his brother's blessing, which is both stealing AND disrespecting his father, Isaac (by lying to him and counting on him being a senile old fool). And of course they always point out that Jacob fled his brother, and later came back . . . at which point Esau forgave him everything. Yet God hated Esau and loved Jacob, because Jacob was cunning.

It's so rare to find someone who really wants to understand God!

            Ezekiel 18:23
Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord God: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?

            I'd like an explanation please.

You have to read it in the context of Ezekiel 18. God wants the wicked to come to Him, and He doesn't want the righteous to stray (or He will kill them).

I did, God wants sinners to repent and join him in heaven, he doesn't want to see them perish and go to hell.

True, but He will do just that even to an otherwise righteous person if they do something stupid like hang out with a woman on her period (Ezekiel 18:6).

I'm just trying to get my head around to God hates sinners thing. Here it suggests he takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked. I suspect he doesn't hate the person but the sin.

                      God doesn't love everybody:

                      Proverbs 6
[16] These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
[17] A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
[18] An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,
[19] A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

And don't give me any "He hates the sin, not the sinner" crap...

                      Matthew 13
                      [38] The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one;
[39] The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels.
[40] As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world.
                      [41] The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;
[42] And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
                      Who Will Jesus Damn?

Here is a partial list from just a few scripture verses:

Hypocrites (Matthew 24:51), The Unforgiving (Mark 11:26), Homosexuals (Romans 1:26, 27), Fornicators (Romans 1:29), The Wicked (Romans 1:29), The Covetous (Romans 1:29), The Malicious (Romans 1:29), The Envious (Romans 1:29), Murderers (Romans 1:29), The Deceitful (Romans 1:29), Backbiters (Romans 1:30), Haters of God (Romans 1:30), The Despiteful (Romans 1:30), The Proud (Romans 1:30), Boasters (Romans 1:30), Inventors of evil (Romans 1:30), Disobedient to parents (Romans 1:30), Covenant breakers (Romans 1:31), The Unmerciful (Romans 1:31), The Implacable (Romans 1:31), The Unrighteous (1Corinthians 6:9), Idolaters (1Corinthians 6:9), Adulterers (1Corinthians 6:9), The Effeminate (1Corinthians 6:9), Thieves (1Corinthians 6:10), Drunkards (1Corinthians 6:10), Reviler (1Corinthians 6:10), Extortioners (1Corinthians 6:10), The Fearful (Revelation 21:8), The Unbelieving (Revelation 21:8), The Abominable (Revelation 21:8), Whoremongers (Revelation 21:8), Sorcerers (Revelation 21:8), All Liars (Revelation 21:8)

Yet He will resurrect them from unknowing death (Ecclesiastes 9:5) specifically so He can burn them alive for eternity in His Lake of Fire.

There is no purgatory. Hell is a one-way ticket; you check in, but you never check out.

If He only hated the sin, He could very easily leave sinners dead and unknowing. Or cause them to cease to exist by any other means. >POOF!<

But He instead will torture them forever and ever, in a place He created specifically for that purpose.

Sorry, that's not consistent with the fuzzy-bunny "hates the sin but not the sinner" nonsense you're suggesting.

I've found some sermons which have provided me with some decent knowledge. So I'm beginning to understand things from your perspective now

Thank you for all your support and forgiveness.

I'm still rather young in knowledge so if I stuff up I'm sorry. I'll be a True Christian someday and make Jesus happy.

It was my ex that confused me

Genesis is going fine. I occassionally get sidetracked with other parts of the Bible. But that ok isn't it?

I'm reading about Joseph in Egypt at the mo.
