Re: Scary - I do not Give a Flying Crap About Anything Except Me!
Oh, and sorry to not address the comment about creating a god to fit personal beliefs. That's why I dont ascribe to any religion. If I COULD pick a theology, I'd choose the Taoism. But its all moot conjecture anyway since wanting something to be true doesn't make it so.

We are realists. Either Mitt or O'Banana. Not a real hard choice.Originally posted by PasstionateAgnostic View PostWow, I'm genuinely surprised that this community would be Romney supporters. They want to believe in a god that fits their desires, one that agrees with them.
Most of them make one up, then call it "God" and pretend it's the Christian God.
Instead, they are just worshiping themselves.
Why do they think they can "believe in" a god that agrees with them on everything, and it will come into being? Bizarre.
As long as you follow Biblical Law, you should be fine.
After Romney is elected and the House and Senate reach a Tea Party majority, we will decimate the radical left, make Christianity mandatory as a condition of citizenship, and begin deporting all nonbelievers. But first, of course, we will begin by instituting Biblical Law, along with its punishments.
That means executing homosexuals and also adulterers like Newt Gingrich, and the end of the welfare state.
The Mayans are right, there will be an ending and a new beginning in late 2012. The end of the liberal welfare state, and the beginning of the New Christian Dominion. Glory!

Friend, it is not us that should worry you, we are passive followers of Gods Word(c). You big concern should be God and what He chooses to do and when.Originally posted by PasstionateAgnostic View PostWell thank you for that post, I appreciate the respect in your tone. I see you balancing your life with fire in one hand and dynamite in the other. You are trying to keep them seperate but you will not be able to do so forever. No one can. We have Gods Love in one hand and Our Devotion to Him in the other. When combined it will provide us with an eternity of bliss.

So how about warning her about, say, sucking on a lump of lead or eating lead oxide? No immediate consequence...Originally posted by PasstionateAgnostic View PostI of course teach her; let her learn by example; let her make mistakes to a degree, but above all teach her consequences. Putting a fork in the light socket has a very real and immediate consequence.
"I'd love her even if she turned herself into a drooling idiot before she dies," doesn't do her much good.

Friend, you are here for a reason. You did not just stumble in. Think about why YOU came to US.
I know why. He knows why. We are just waiting for you to realize it.

As I've said, I believe in consequences. There are plenty of reasons not to continue to break progressively more severe laws.Originally posted by James Hutchins View PostFriend, like many people that hate God, you are too closed minded to see the Truth©. I thought you were a smart man but apparently I was incorrect. That is a lesson I need to learn about giving people the benefit of the doubt.
Friend, there are rules. Once you break one, there is no reason to say you will not break another, then another.
Today, it is driving like a reckless manic at break neck speeds. Next week, you push an old lady down a stair case, shattering all her frail bones.
When will it stop? It should of stopped before it started. Who told you that you are above the rules that all decent people agreed to abide by?
Would you mind if a boy looked at your daughter? Held her hand? Kissed her? 'Accidently' fondled her burgeoning breasts? Got her pregnant? Who is the one to decide what is acceptable? You? The boy? I'll tell you who. God is.
As for my daughter, I am bringing her up in a manner that 1. She has self-esteem not to be pressured into going beyond what she is comfortable. 2. She'll have mace and training to possibly prevent a boy from going further than she feels comfortable with. 3. She'll have a dad who is very attuned to what is going on in her life and able to offer advise in order to avoid severe consequences. 4. She'll know the consequences of her actions (such as drugs or unprotected sex) and 5. She'll know she's allowed to make mistakes yet retain family support.
Now before you disagree James, think about how the God you believe in does things: He gives everyone the freedom to choose. He warns and he wants you to stand for what you believe in. The fact that I'm here having this discussion is evidence of our uniqueness and freedom to dissent. I'm not forced to listen to you, I choose to think. Anout what youre saying and seek further understanding of my fellow beings.

Re: Scary
Do you have so much faith in the laws of man? I drive as fast as I feel safe and competent driving. I hope it doesn't happen, and it would indeed be a tragedy if I were involved in an accident. If you obey the speed limit while hitting and killing someone are you any less involved? That appears inconsistent and elevating the law of the land over personal responsibility. When I park illegally, its only by over staying the two hour parking limits nearby. I don't block fire hydrants; though even doing that you're mainly risking vehicle damage from the fire department as they bust out your windows.Originally posted by James Hutchins View PostFriend, one day you will speed and kill someones daughter. You may pay a fine but the debt you will owe will never be repaid. There is no excuse for breaking Gods laws.
What is there was a fire and because you are parked illegally, the trucks cannot get to it in time and some little girls parents die. Will your $15 ticket be sufficient? To the little girl, will a 'sorry, here is a quarter, too bad' cover it?
How can you be so selfish. You should explain to your daughter how you are above the laws of all other people and are allowed to do what ever you want.
I can easily see why your family wanted to disown you. How can you have such disdain for the rest of humanity?
By the same token, if you hit and killed someone, how would you repay that. You would be in the same boat: unable to answer to the parents.

I feel no moral guilt over this since I pay the consequences for my actions. I don't deny my daughters right to choose. I was nearly disowned by my family for leaving their faith, but in the end it was my decision (and will be my daughters' decision) to follow in my path or go her own way.

But laws are the laws and we should not break them just because we want to and can. We have to change the laws instead. The onlt way to have the Bible changed is for God to authorize it. I pray to Him regarding certain parts that even to me seem extreme and excessive. But until God chooses to change His rules, I will follow them. Denying your daughter the ability to have a close and personal relationship with Jesus is a cruel mistreatment. Do not be surprised when you have unexpected and what appears to be 'unexplainable' fits from her. It will be a craving in that void in her life that only Jesus can fill.

James, thank you also for taking the time and effort to respond. Being judged and lost is nothing new to me and ceased bothering me long ago. Thankfully I'm the only one who has to live inside my head. I feel at peace with my nature. As for your analogy about the fireworks, you're right, it would be silly to face such an astronomically disproportionate punishment for moments of pleasure. If I did believe in a specific god, it seems like he'd be a bit more understanding. That's a whole different topic though.
Again, thanks for your time
