Cambridge swears in nation's first transsexual mayor

LONDON (AFP) - A female councillor who was born a man and fathered two children has been sworn in as Britain's first transsexual mayor.

Jenny Bailey, a 45-year-old Liberal Democrat became the civic leader of Cambridge City Council on Thursday.

Bailey -- who fathered two children during a marriage before having a sex change operation in her 30's -- was joined by her transsexual partner Jennifer Liddle, who will now become the mayoress.

"This is fantastic," she said to loud applause, donning her mayoral robes and posing for photographs with Liddle.

"I'm proud that I managed to get through something which was quite difficult and managed to come out of it a better person. If you ask me what are the things that define me, I would say being a parent, an engineer, a woman.

"When you go through transgender experience and come through the other side, you are just happy to get on with normal life, normal problems, so this is a wonderful opportunity. I certainly do not want it to eclipse being mayor."

Oh, she'll "come through to the other side" alright. I can't even imagine the horrors awaiting this coven of homersexural perverts when they wake up in eternal hellfire.

Students ban Christians in row over gays

A UNIVERSITY Christian Union has been suspended and had its bank account frozen after refusing to open its membership to people of all religions.

The Christian Union, an evangelical student organisation, has instructed lawyers and is threatening court proceedings against the Birmingham Guild of Students.

The Birmingham Christian Union has more than 100 members who attend meetings regularly and has been functioning at the university for 76 years.

Members claim the actions have been taken against them after they refused on religious grounds to make “politically correct” changes to their charitable constitution, including explicitly mentioning people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgendered.

The Christian Union was advised that the use of the words “men” and “women” in the constitution were causing concern because they could be seen as excluding transsexual and transgendered people.

Difficulties arose after the organisation Christians in Sport, whose supporters include Jonathan Edwards, the Olympic gold medallist, attempted to book a room in the name of the Christian Union. After checking the union’s constitution, the Guild of Students objected to a number of clauses.

Andy Weatherley, Christian Union staff worker in Birmingham, said: “The guild insists the Christian Union constitution must be amended to include mandatory clauses, insisting on more control by the guild and open membership to those who would not call themselves Christians.”

At a recent guild meeting Matthew Crouch, of the Christian Union, appealed against derecognition. He said: “All guild members can attend our meeting but only members can vote,” but Stuart Mathers, a guild vice-president, said that all student groups have to follow guild council policy. Birmingham University Christian Union is affiliated to the University and Colleges’ Christian Fellowship. Pod Bhogal, its communications director, said: “We support the Birmingham Christian Union. We would not dream of telling a Muslim group or a political society how to elect their leaders or who could or could not become a member. The same applies to a Christian Union.”

Missionary fights ‘Godless town’ claims




Four years ago Telford was branded one of Britain’s most Godless towns. But a pioneer missionary has been attempting to encourage more Telford residents to get in touch with their Christian side. And tomorrow, a radio documentary will reveal how successful he has been. The 30-minute radio documentary, called Telford, the Most Godless Town in Britain, will chart Mark Berry’s challenge to encourage more people to tap into their spirituality on behalf of the Diocese of Lichfield.


Jolyon Jenkins trailed the Church of England missionary on several occasions over a six-month period and the results will be broadcast on BBC Radio 4 at 11am. A national newspaper labelled Telford as the most Godless town in Britain when it emerged in 2005 the town had one of the lowest church attendances per head of the population, with less than one per cent of people attending an Anglican church on Sundays.


The Diocese appointed Mr Berry to the newly-created post of Pioneer Leader to young adults in the Telford area in 2005. The former youth worker, who lives in Telford with his wife Louisa and four-year-old son Nathan, has initiated a number of projects under the Safe Space banner, including forging links between AFC Telford United and local methodist churches. Mr Berry said he had taken issue with the title of the documentary because he believed church attendance did not accurately reflect the number of Christians in Telford. “It’s absolute nonsense,” he said. “The number of people attending church does not make a place more or less Godless. God doesn’t live in churches. Hopefully the documentary will reflect the work we are doing. My role is not to get more people into church, but to engage with people in the 20s and 30s and serve the community.” Mr Berry, who has also been approached to feature in the Channel 4 series Christianity: A History, said he had done a five-hour interview with the presenter who had also shadowed him at a number of events and visited projects with him. “I am looking forward to hearing what he has made of it,” he said.

I'd say "Bravo" to those Brits if I spoke foreign languages. I wouldn't attend one of those false Christian churches for all the warm beer in London. There is no quicker path to hell than worshiping the Queen of England.

THE Guinness heiress accused of a sex romp on a jet had her baby son beside her at the time, it emerged last night.

Clare Irby, 29, allegedly pleasured Daniel Melia, 36, under a blanket as his drunken girlfriend lay passed out next to them.

Clare’s son James, two, was said to be curled up alongside on the Bangalore-Heathrow flight. It is believed he was asleep.

Greeks free nun-dressed Britons

Seventeen British men arrested for wearing nuns' habits and accused of offensive behaviour have been freed by a court on the Greek island of Crete.

The prosecutors dropped the charges against them after no one showed up to testify that they had been upset by the tourists' conduct.

The men, who were also wearing women's lingerie, spent a night in police cells in Crete wearing their outfits.

They appeared in court on Monday in the clothes they had on when arrested.

They were apprehended in the early hours of Sunday morning and held for "scandal and misrepresentation of a costume or uniform".

The male tourists, aged between 18 and 65, were in the seaside holiday town of Malia, and appeared in court in Iraklio.

The British Embassy in Athens confirmed that all 17 had been released.

The BBC's Malcolm Brabant said the men, all from the Bristol area, went out dressed in habits and saucy lingerie, lifting up their skirts to reveal bottoms and G-strings.
