It's common in Baptist circles to refer to the "success" of First Baptist of Dallas. Sure, Billy Graham was a member, membership numbers are about 13,000 and Pastor Robert Jeffress is a buddy of President Trump. Why would God burn it down as happened yesterday?
Behind this facade of success there have been signs God was not pleased. God does not like mixing the races. First Baptist is over 150 years old. During most of these 150 years its primary message was that God put different races on different continents and does not approve interracial marriage. Hundreds of sermons focused on this fact for over 100 years. The church stood there and prospered. Lots of churches burned down or closed across the U.S. during those years.
But, some decades ago First Baptist of Dallas left God behind. It started welcoming Negro/White couples as members. No more sermons lauding segregation of the races. Not a word against interracial marriage. Yes, its history was a good one. But the present is the present. God is angry.
Pastor Jeffress says the First Baptist of Dallas will continue. Let me pass on some advice: Pastor Jeffress, learn or God will burn.
