Wise advice Pastor Ed. But I would do minor change. I would offer the money and use hidden recorder. Once I would get the Yes for the answer, I would promise to pay the money next day. Then I would go to talk with the daughter and play her the record. It would do the job and you wouldn't need to pay the guy.

The minor flaw is that you can probably do this only once. But if you could convince your daughter that you really didn't mean to pay, you just tested the guy, I bet you could do it again if need arises
