Christ said it is easier for a camel to go through an eye of a needle than a rich man to get into heaven.
The Bible contains more than 300 verses on the poor, social justice, and God's deep concern for both.

Prov. 29:7. The righteous is concerned for the rights of the poor; the wicked does not understand such concern.

Luke 6:20-21. Blessed are you who are poor, for yours in the kingdom of God. Blessed are you who hunger now, for you shall be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh.

James 2:5. Did not God choose the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him?

Luke 12:33. "Sell your possessions and give to charity; make yourselves purses which do not wear out, an unfailing treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near, nor moth destroys."

Prov. 19:17. He who is gracious to a poor man lends to the LORD, and He will repay him for his good deed.

Of course all True Christians(tm) care about the poor and disenfranchised. I have extended my home and a few dollars to well over two hundred of the ungrateful thieving layabouts.

Interestingly enough, Ayn Rand, author of Atlas Shrugged and among the most famous Americans to ever argue in support of greed, was a self-described atheist.

While I agree with the sentiments expressed by the individual who started this thread, since they are pretty much word-for-word Ayn Rand, I thought I should point out this strange fact.

As a longtime fan of Rand's work, I sometimes feel as though her work begs the question of whether it is possible for a person to be a messenger of the Lord here on earth without that person even knowing it. Anyone with an opinion on that question (I don't know the answer - although her work makes a compelling case for the possibility), your insights are much appreciated.

Ok, how can you talk about economics when what is really at stake is the suffering of people. We should be doing our best to reduce the amount of suffering in the world by not allowing social Darwinism to claim the lives of the disenfranchised. Every suffering body, deprived of food and clean shelter (not wants) sends a signal to god, it's much like fast tithing. Ok, so that sends a message that suffering is still here, so why would god of jesus come back to a planet that is continuing to allow suffering of his fathers children... He wont. In fact is says "I will break the back bone of your power and give it to some one that don't even know my name" Which is what i believe is happening today. I have never seen so many scientists leave a country faster that right here, in the United States.

Can I just point out that there is no such thing as social Darwinism. That is a term you have made up. Darwinism is the heresy of evolution. And why should we be trying to reduce suffering? If God has brought suffering on a person to test their faith or punish them, what right do we have to interfere?

Yes it is very hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven, but it is not impossible. It just depends on whether or not you value your money more than your salvation.

Think about Europe. Europe is a country that had good economic growth and was becoming more and more like America. Then the Green party and other lieberal forces took over the politics. Look the Europe now, they are in the regression and people, even the rich are suffering.

God gives plenty for those who believe and others are jealous and will call it selfishness or greed.

It is the poor who really are greedy and want more than God provides.

Darwinism-a theory of organic evolution claiming that new species arise and are perpetuated by natural selection.

Evolution is a fact of life. There is no refutation on evolution. The only thing you can possibly say is that God forced the hand of evolution, but that would still be stretching it.
