Days 306-307: John 4-9

After the magnificent revelations in John 1-3 (Jesus is God, His Wrath will descend upon you lest you dismiss Him) it is time to look at the everyday working life of Jesus Christ during those few years He dwelled on Earth in human form while being God. You may read these exciting adventures all at once or divide them into two days, if you are slightly retarded and unable to digest so much of the Good Stuff at once.

Chapter 4 gives us more and more proof of Jesus being the tool of our Salvation, of Being the True™ God. He goes to a well and sees a sinning woman, a Samaritan. Once again we understand that not even the most intimate moments of our personal lives are hidden from God. Jesus sees the woman and immediately understands her fornicatory past!

John 4:17-18
The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband: For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly.

Jesus H. Christ!
What a fornicator! But Jesus is Merciful (see also Jonah 4:2), there is a Way out.

John 4:23
But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.

The hour is now.
We are the ones this verse refers to! As a result of this tiny conversation, many Samaritans accept conversion and start to Believe. Jesus goes on to do some Healing, this time at a distance.

John 4:53-54
So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house. This is again the second miracle that Jesus did, when he was come out of Judaea into Galilee.

Jesus enters Chapter 5 and so do we. Alternative healing methods are dismissed as they should. A healing pool gives false hope to poor disease-ridden sinners, while Jesus can induce actual, permanent recovery.

John 5:8-9
Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk. And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.

It was Sabbath so Jesus had now broken His own Law (Exodus 20:8). The Jews failed to understand that the Ultimate Lawmaker is beyond their criticism, but Jesus had His rebuttal good and ready!

John 5:17
But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.

Verily, just another day in the working life of a Savior! And it will not end until this Earth is recycled!

John 5:27
And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.

How can we believe this, many sinners will ask. How do we know that Jesus was what He claimed to be? Because Jesus told us that God had told Him so! Again, excellent eyewitness testimony by Jesus!

John 5:37
And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape.

We haven't seen God but Jesus has. This is True™. We haven't seen God. How could Jesus know that if He hadn't seen Him!

Jesus has more stuff to do in Chapter 6. People are hungry. The Master Chef of Heaven, Jesus, intervenes!

John 6:8-11
One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, saith unto him, There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many? And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand. And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would

This was, in fact, good practice, as feeding is going to be one of Jesus's main occupations after the Events at the End of Time will have Given way to New Earth and New Heaven (Revelation 7:17). Next, Jesus takes a shortcut by walking across a lake. It's time to teach, and the incident with food allows Jesus to associate to His own significance in Salvation.

John 6:26-27
Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled. Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.

John 6:35
And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

Again, we are reminded of Future events (Revelation 7:17). It is only Jesus who can Save us!

John 6:53
Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.

This is too difficult for many to comprehend and, sadly, quite a few disciples abandon Jesus and all hope of Life Eternal. After these devastating events, we are more than happy to enter Chapter 7. Jesus goes to a festival to teach there. Again, Jesus mentions that sometimes it is necessary for Him to break His own Commandments regarding Sabbath. The Pharisees, again, as Jews, fail to understand Him. This is no surprise as the Master Plan of God includes that they would eventually kill Jesus.

John 7:38
He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

Please note, "as the Scripture hath said"! This means that we are to follow the Bible!

Chapter 8 - potential disaster. A wonderful example of Jesus's everyday work, the adulterous woman, the stoning, the pardon! Is it all fake!? Many "oldest manuscripts" do not contain John 8:1-11! However, if we look at the pericope, it is in perfect harmony with the rest of the Bible!

John 8:7
So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

Are there people without sin? There are! Those re-born in Christ! Us (1 John 3:9; also written by John)! We have, thus, the permit to cast the stone and to judge in a righteous manner. But there is more!

John 8:11
She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

"Sin no more!"
Homers, take note! You can be forgiven but your future behavior will determine if you've Truly™ accepted Jesus, as His followers sin no more! Glory!

Jesus goes on to give more proof of His essence.

John 8:12
Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

The sinners still fail to believe Him, so Jesus gives them even more information. He testifies about Himself! Now, if you want proof about the Divine nature of Jesus, whom do you trust? A God, obviously, and as Jesus is God, you trust Him. It is simple and plain.

John 8:18
I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.

Inexplicably, many still fail to understand this and try to stone Him but Jesus is cunning and hides.

John 8:59
Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

Back to work in Chapter 9! Jesus decides to heal a blind man with a tincture consisting of dirt and spit.

John 9:6-7
When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay, And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.

This proves to be quite a valid example of Jesus's work. The healed man is questioned and he gives his non-eye-witness testimony about the events.

John 9:25
He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.

As always, Jesus can utilize His healing clinic for teaching material. The physiological blindness is nothing compared to Spiritual blindness, that of not accepting Jesus as the God He claims to be!

John 9:39
And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind.

This also means that not everybody will be Saved! Praise God!

Next time: Shepherding and the Ultimate Act of Healing and much more!
