1 Chronicles 4-6
Remember Biblegateway is missing 1 Chronicles 1-3 so this is segment 111b, of our Bible in a Year.
Today we get:
1 Chronicles 4
1 The sons of Judah; Pharez, Hezron, and Carmi, and Hur, and Shobal.
Judah's boys were Er, Onan, Shelah, Pharez, Hezron, Carmi, Hur and Shobal.
9 And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow.
Those Joos sure do love to have a favorite.
10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.
That's a pretty selfish prayer that Jabez prayed. You'd think that with all the people who have read the prayer of Jabez, that it would flatter God a little more; instead it's a prayer of "God give me stuff".
24 The sons of Simeon were, Nemuel, and Jamin, Jarib, Zerah, and Shaul:
25 Shallum his son, Mibsam his son, Mishma his son.
Simeon's sons were; Nemuel, Jamin, Jarib, Zerah, Shaul, Shallum, Mibsam, and Mishma.
1 Chronicles 5
1 Now the sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel, (for he was the firstborn; but forasmuch as he defiled his father's bed, his birthright was given unto the sons of Joseph the son of Israel: and the genealogy is not to be reckoned after the birthright.
2 For Judah prevailed above his brethren, and of him came the chief ruler; but the birthright was Joseph's
You'll note the use of the smiley face at the end of verse 2.
So Reuben was the first born, so he should have been the leader and had the double share of the inheritance. Instead Judah became the leader, and Joseph got the double share (Ephriam and Manasseh).
3 The sons, I say, of Reuben the firstborn of Israel were, Hanoch, and Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.
Apparently, Foghorn Leghorn was the author of verse 3.
I say, I'm not a chicken, I say, I'm a rooster boy!
1 Chronicles 6
1 The sons of Levi; Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
Levi had 3 boys, Gershon, Kohath and Merari.
Amram was Kohath's son.
3 And the children of Amram; Aaron, and Moses, and Miriam. The sons also of Aaron; Nadab, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.
Levi, Kohath, Amram, Moses.
Remember, the Kohanim come from the line of Aaron. The Kohanim are the high priests in joo-de-ism.
16 The sons of Levi; Gershom, Kohath, and Merari.
Yeah, you just told us that.
33 And these are they that waited with their children. Of the sons of the Kohathites: Heman a singer, the son of Joel, the son of Shemuel,
Heman was a singer, not the defender of the universe.
49 But Aaron and his sons offered upon the altar of the burnt offering, and on the altar of incense, and were appointed for all the work of the place most holy, and to make an atonement for Israel, according to all that Moses the servant of God had commanded.
Yes, we already went over that.
So what have we learned today?
1. These men were virile and lived a rather long time. (Most of it probably before after going into Egypt, remember there were only 70 people who went into Egypt according to Genesis 46:27)
2. I say, I say, Reuben may have lost his birthright, but he became the best sammich out of the boys. When was the last time you ordered a Gad sandwich?
3. Levi may have been the Great Grandfather of Moses, but the bible never says when he first made a set of dungarees.
