Donald Coffey Jr., his father and friends were on their way back from joy riding near a levee and swimming in the Trinity River around 9 p.m. Thursday when homeowners Gale and Sheila Muhs fired at them with a 12-gauge shotgun, police say.

The Muhses, both 45, are charged with aggravated assault and are being held in the Liberty County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail each. The couple is expected to appear in state district court in the coming week.

Authorities are considering upgrading the charge to murder or capital murder, Bishop said.

The boy, struck in the face, was among eight people, including four children, who had been on the river outing. Four people, including another child, were shot.

The boy’s 5-year-old sister, Destiny, and their father, Donald Coffey Sr., 36, were hit but have been treated by doctors and released.

The fourth shooting victim is family friend Patrick Cammack, 30, whose condition has improved since surgery. Doctors had to leave a bullet in his head, said his wife, Cindy Nelton, who was also there that night.
Nelton said the ordeal happened over two or three minutes in “pitch darkness.”

...In a message peppered with expletives, she said, the voice ordered the group to get their vehicles off the property.

“And then I heard a shot and our windows were blown out,” Nelton said.
Nelton, who never saw a shooter, said she immediately stomped on the gas and screamed, “We’ve got kids in this vehicle! Y’all need to stop shooting!”

A second shot, and possibly others, came in reply.

No. These are the faces of typical Republican patriots just like the ones you see at Sarah Palin rallies and tea parties. Obviously they are being persecuted for being proud gun owners, and staunch supporters of property rights. Here is their sign:

The warning was clear. Yet those sinners decided to keep committing revelery at an hour when Christians are a home asleep.

Those permissive parents had their son awake past his bedtime. Well, he's finally getting some rest now.

What has this country come to? There was a time were you could defend yourself but now even in Texas young punks can use your lawn as a public lavatory and if you object oh you are the bad guy. I mean for the love of Christ they gave Coffey Jr one second warning before they began randomly shooting the SUV he was in up. Maybe if he had got going when he was told to and not given attitude he would still be alive.

So this is the America you liberals want? Decent, upstanding community members, the people who make this country great persecuted for defending themselves??

Brother, this is absolutely unacceptable. No American should ever be treated the way these two fine citizens are. PROTECTING YOUR FAMILY AND PROPERTY IS NOT A CRIME!

I knew America was in for trouble when ACORN thugs, brainwashed hippies, and an army of crazed Kool-Aid drinkers listening to rap "music" gave Barack Obummer a narrow electoral "victory" last fall. But I never could have imagined that it would be this bad. So, both are 45 (multiply by 2 and you get 90). If they get 90 years in prison, it would be WAY too lenient!

If the person was 18 years old, then that would be one thing...But NEVER do it to a child, EVER!

If you read and comprehended the article, you would know that the time of the incident was 9:00 PM; i.e. it was dark – those people could have been Al-Qaeda terrorists.

Sadly this is all due to modern education by the LIEbrals teaching socialism. They were all taught not to respect private property. They think they can just take anyone's property and use it as they please – just like Obama.
