    Has the BBC got it wrong?

    They state that most of our modern sayings are quoted from the KJV bible and we don't know we're quoting the bible.

    They also say;

    "English was in a particularly fluid state. Both the works of Shakespeare and the King James Bible appeared around this formative time and stamped their imprint on the newer forms of the language."

    Shakespeare????

    The impact of the King James Bible, which was published 400 years ago, is still being felt on the way we speak and write, says Stephen Tomkins.

    Is the KJ Bible the forerunner of all modern English? Is this article heathen propaganda by the BBC?

    As many of you know I have only recently embraced true christianity and find such articles unbalanced and somewhat mocking of True Christians. Surely unsaved trash have no right in quoting from the one true bible.

    The BBC can hardly be trusted to issue weather reports never mind theorems on the origin of the English Language.

    I reckon it's a ploy to set up a 'word-off' between the KJV1611 and Shakespeare where the set up Shakespeare as the winner because he was English and King James a begging Jock.

    I take offence at this not as a Scot, but as a Christian who can see through the secular lies of the fascist régime that tries to fob us off with Rule Britannia little Englander political hysteria and pander to the scientific establishment with its wishy washy soap sud 'news'.

    That and the licence fee that we pay for them to screen filth like Eastenders and Match of the Day.

        No if they only combined Match of the Day and Eastenders so that we got to see highlights of Brits killing each other, I might pay for that.

          Indeed Brother, the BBC couldn't find their own behinds with a map and a torch. The article is biased against the greatest monarch in History (his own mother was a Papist which he refuted by authorising the Good Book) but the Lord knew that he was destined to do his bidding and wrote this passage for King James VI & I - Where the word of a king is, there is power. Ecclesiastes VIII:IV

            BBC television is nothing more than a government sponsored socialist/communist menace (much like PBS in the US) originally constructed to convince Hitler not to invade the UK.

            1936 Television Song in "high definition" from the BBC (notice the reference to "New World" order):

            Hell's foundations quiver at the shout of praise;
            brothers, lift your voices, loud your anthems raise.
            ...and get off my lawn

              Wow... do you guys really have nothing more to talk about... you must be so paranoid.

              English is the language that started in England and adopted by many other countries like America.

              The BBC is not evil... Nickelodeon is the one to watch!!!

                A couple of quick comments. The English( British) pre- stole the American Language. All the other countries speak a bastardized version of American.

                Nickelodeon is bad, not near as bad as the Disney channel or the History Channel.

                  Wrong. American is a development of a language originally known as Anglo-Saxon, later known as Anglisc or Englisc among other names. Its origins in Northern Germany saw it develop into 2 distinct varieties which separated somewhat into English and Scottis (or Scots). Scots is, in fact a far more accurate version of the original language and is thus a worthier tongue than the corrupted version spoken 'Dahn Saff'.

                  It has since split again into
                  American, Australian and Kiwish (although many linguists prefer to see the latter as a sub-special dialect of Australian). 'Sedifrikin' is not considered as more than a dialect of English, however.
                  The consideration of American as a language is beyond all doubt, in much the same way as Breton v Cornish, Czech v Slovak, Irish Gaelic v Scottish Gaelic, Danish v Norwegian to name but a few.

                  Mutual intelligibility is no measure of languagehood as can be seen among the Romance languages. One could never argue that Italian is a dialect of Spanish.

                  That's just plain stupid.

                    Have you seen The One Show? Only an evil programming network could broadcast stuff like that.

                      English is the language that God spoke the universe into creation with. Or have you not read the Bible. For God to speak English before the world existed, English had to exist before the world. Simple logic.

                      Second, America was intelligently designed by God himself. This nation isn't a British nation, it's a Christian nation. Liberals wrote God out of the history books and put British nancy-boys in their place. This is upheld by the observation that the British could never ever stage a successful revolution. Only Americans can do that.

                      Television is the one-eyed devil. And Nickelodeon is an anagram of
                      CLONE KID ONE, an obvious reference to the nefarious network's desire to make all children into cookie-cutter Satanists.
