Why? Because of sin, that's why.
After the Fall, sin became commonplace; like water, it filled every nook and cranny, seeking to find it's own level. And after corrupting the environment, toxic sin began seeping into the thirsty earth, all the way down to the Earth's core (i.e., Hell). This has given rise to the ridiculous belief that the Earth is approx. 4.6 billion years old -- because sin has corrupted and prematurely aged the sedimentary rock used to determine the Earth's age. Radiometric dating cannot measure sin-saturation with regard to rock, as sin is spiritually radioactive; the only reliable technique we have for measuring the true age of our young Earth is faith, faith in the Word of GOD.
