That is a beautiful and very illuminating illustration, Sister, that makes the whole nonsense clear as day. It should be in textbooks everywhere!
As to pastry: I was thinking, maybe it would help the non-believers grasp God™s earthly world if they stopped thinking of it as a perfectly flat disk, and more shaped like a PIE.
There is depth to it (the filling) because there has to be space down there for h*ll, and also when you're gardening you notice your trowel doesn't poke right through into nothingness. So there is stuff down there, no doubt about it.
And the surface is bumpy like a lattice-top crust or strussel topping (though naturally much bigger of course) which is why you will see the mast of a ship first come over what a viewer can take to be "the horizon", followed by the body of the boat.
