Re: Homeschool Science Lessons: Proving atheists wrong with science
Hello all. Before I type any of my response, I would like to make it clear that I am neither agnostic, atheist, not religious. I have a set of beliefs, a philosophy if you will, and nothing more. I am not attacking anyone in what I say, and I hope that it will be read in a civil manner.
Firstly, the water. The picture posted simply proved how much water exists in a liquid state at one given time, on the Earth's surface/crust. However, it does not account for the water that is within organisms or other objects. I do believe I read something that brought up the law of conservation of mass/energy. Neither is created nor destroyed. The question then brought up was where the "new" water was coming from? The fact of the matter is, whoever stated this is correct, but also incorrect. Water is not being "created" in the sense that it is coming from nowhere, however, it is being created in a sense that liquid water is condensing and collecting. To bring this idea to life, we can take our own bodies for example. Regardless of what you believe in, we still know that a physical form of our body is left on Earth, yes? Within that physical form, are chemicals, compounds, and various things. One of which, is water. Through specific heat, various filtration methods, and things I probably don't know about, we can assume that as our body deteriorates, the water is lost. It does not disappear, just as the water we are drinking does not appear from nowhere. Instead, the water soaks into the soil around our physical being. If you are not buried, then the water evaporates slowly out of/off of our bodies. Bringing in the idea of cremation, the water is heated to a point of its gaseous state and therefore still exists. In the end, however, the water is still within the world. It simply gets recycled. As it floats up in a gaseous state, or sits in the permeable layer of the Earth's crust, it condenses, until eventually you have underwater wells/pockets, or clouds. No matter the circumstance, you will have fresh water that has been recycled.
To finish this post off, I want to say that no side can prove or disprove religion/faith, just as they cannot prove or disprove science. The fact of the matter is, the only thing compelling us to believe in such things is logic. It is the sense made when connecting two details. We should stop focusing on who is correct more often, and start focusing on what is right. If you are constantly bashing others for their beliefs, why do you do it? If you believe that nonbelievers will go to hell, then let them. If you believe that religious followers are crazy, then let them go insane.
Thank you for reading, and I hope this has brought light to both sides of the argument. Good luck with life's endeavors, and may you live a wonderful life.
