Okay, fair enough. I think science should not be mixed with faith then. Such an explanation must be sound, otherwise it does not explain anything but is misleading. As far as I can see, the "proof, that the sun is very close" does not hold. Anyone may keep his/her faith, which is beyond question, but there is no point in defending obviously wrong conclusions (as some people do here).

That's because you aren't God. God has told you what to be bothered about in the Bible and you're deliberately ignoring what you need to do to be saved while you chase after some sort of proof God is wrong - when He clearly can't be because he's God.

I thought the belief in a round Earth was cast away decades ago - I am amazed, that even after so much evidence, so many pictures from satellites, some people STILL believe the Earth is flat, and that the Sun is only 50 miles away.

An example of proof for the sphericality of Earth is the fact that when ships are far away, on the horizon, the lower part will be invisible. This is proof of the Earth's curvature.

You didn’t provide any Biblical evidences supporting your claim - what makes it void by default. Nevertheless, I’ll play your silly game this time:

Why shouldn't we rather apply a simple, logical explanation (besides bending of the light) for the mentioned visual effect: perspective. The observed object appears ever smaller as their distance from the observer increases – until it practically disappears.

Explain the shadow on the Moon during a lunar eclipse.

Explain why a satellite (A man-made one...) can be continuously orbiting Earth, and even be geo-stationary. (Proof of this are videos of from a satellite)

I don't need to explain anything God does. Who knows why God needs to occasionally darken the moon in this way? I'm happy to let God get on with His plan without bothering Him because He has told me how to be saved. Why do you hate God's plan?

Now you're telling me that something man threw up into the sky can stay in the same place and yet be moving all the time? No, wait, there are pictures from in the sky... Oh, I wonder if it's through a special lens and from a helicopter. Make your mind up! Is it moving or not?

You seem to be a nice enough person. Please do me the courtesy of reading the following carefully.

(Hebrews 11:6) "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."

(Proverbs 3:5) "Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding."

(2 Corinthians 5:7) "For we walk by faith, not by sight."

I was once where you are now.

I've seen and done things that would make GG Allin blush. I'm not proud of this, but I mention it because I know that some people think True Christians(tm) have lived an entirely insular life and have somehow escaped all secular influence.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

We are well-educated, we've traveled, we've started businesses, we've served our country, we've been to strip clubs, we've closed bars, we've spent the night in jail, we've written books and composed music and gotten into fights and shot people and stolen stuff and etc. etc.

There comes a time when you have to take an objective look at your life, not just THIS life, but the next one, the one that will last forever.

On a dare I read the Bible. The dare was from my Mom. Guess what? It made sense. Not the first time, but the second time around I started to "get it" and by the 3rd time I was convinced.

You've spent an awful lot of time here already. Promise me this: before you post a reply to this particular thread, you will read the 1st five books of the Bible...it will take maybe 2 or 3 days.

Of course you can't see the lower part of a ship that is far away on the ocean. Have you heard of waves? Ocean waves are what is blocking your view, Einstein. The further out on the ocean something travels, the more waves there are between it and you.
