People in science tend to be extremely careful when it comes to calling things facts. In fact, nothing discovered in science has been called a fact (though the theory of the dirac sea comes pretty close). math is full of facts. 2+2=4, this is a fact, a thing that is true no matter what, for all time, 2+2 will equal 4. We tend to be more careful with theories, an example of this is Newtons theory of gravity. It was discovered that newtons equations would stop working when it comes to very dense objects, this is when it was "updated" by Einsteins theory of relativity. Relitivety makes the equations work under those conditions but newton's theories work everywhere else. They were used to correctly time when Hally's comet would pass earth the next time and all times after.

The heliocentric model of the solar system is not even a theory anymore, it is a fact. Supported by Galileo, further explained by Newton, and finally proven by Kepler. There is no one on Earth (besides a few thousand, some of which use this very site) who still refutes this.

The dictionary definition of theory:
a coherent group of tested general propositions, commonly regarded as correct, that can be used as principles of explanation and prediction for a class of phenomena: Einstein's theory of relativity. Synonyms: principle, law, doctrine.

To become a theory it has to be demonstrably correct and undergo and survive a lot of independently verifiable riggorous tests.

In science something is a hypothesis until "proven" except in science there's no such thing as proof, the only true proof is in mathematical statements. A theory is accepted as correct when it has undergone all possible attempts at falsification that can be concieved of and widthstood the rigorous testing. If it survives all the peer review and testing ususually over many decades or even centuries it gets to become a theory.

In mathematics someone suggests an idea it is called a postulate, it remains a postulate until it can be mathematically proved in which case it becomes a theorem.

It's easy to get confused because in every day speech people refer to an unverified, or worse unverifiable, idea as a theory because it sounds less pretentious than saying hypothesis.

Actually if you want to get a little deeper, a scientific theory is a more wordy or verbose application of a scientific law. A law is generally one sentence or a mathematical formula that has been rigorously shown to be correct over a very long period of time and a theory is much lengthier and built around the application of one or more laws.

Theory does not mean 'guess'. It means a model that explains the evidence and has been confirmed through observations. Heliocentrism makes more sense physically than any other model. But all motion is relative. There is nothing "just" about a theory. That suggests you think a theory is an unproven assumption or idea, which is not true. You're thinking of a hypothesis. When a hypothesis has been rigorously proved to be true it becomes a theory. The word theory in scientific parlance is not the same thing as its meaning in common speech.

Absolutely not. It is the atheist belief that harms others. Do you really think that two fags can have sex with anal tearing? The simple existence of homosexuality causes harm to people. But much worse is the fact that gays endanger everyone else, it is a proven fact that gays brought the aids into the world and infected lots and lots of people (even women, proving faggotry is a choice). God tells us in the Bible that He had to wipe out several cities, like Sodom and Gomorrah because queers had taken over. When a homosexual lives in a city he is an imminent threat to every other person there, because God may decide at any moment that the city needs to be wiped out too. We Christians have a right to life and liberty, given to us by the Constitution. The only way our lives can be guaranteed is by preventing homosexuals from living in the same cities we do, so it is the biblical and constitutional duty of the government to make that happen.

Because I care personalty about the truth as a scientist. There is no positive evidence of any kind of intelligent or divine design. You might think the origin of the whole universe requires some sort of intelligence once again is a deeply mysterious problem, but, certainly, that would not be helped by postulating a supernatural intelligence because to postulate that just races bigger questions than it answers. I don't think that religion has anything useful to teach us. One of the main reasons why people are religious is because they are persuaded by the apparent design of living things, and that's completely destroyed by Darwin. It's hard to see how you could fail to be persuaded of it, the evidence is just absolutely pact. Someone believing in God is fine, but religion isn't harmless. It's when your God starts telling you you should kill gays, that's when it's harmful towards others.
