Anyway, if egg-laying is the criterion for birdhood, I just ate a nice fillet of salmon-bird last night. And this morning there was a spider-bird spinning a web in the toolshed. Salmon and spiders lay eggs, you see.

not quite correct, it's not because other types of animals (like insect and fish) lay eggs that it means they belong to the birds. The bat is not a bird because all birds are laying eggs. So if the bat doesn't lay eggs it cannot be a bird as all birds lay eggs. Get it??
