You seem to be implying that video games are not to be taken seriously...

Perhaps you should re-think that last statement, it underlines many of your other arguments. Honestly, this forums has more contradictions the the Bible!

Welcome to God's favorite forum where proper spelling, grammar, punctuation and sentence structure are always appreciated.

The Bible is the unerring word of God.

How about heading over to the introduction forum. Church protocol requires you to post an introduction before you make a fool of yourself elsewhere.

Please, tell us where you go to Church. What are your favorite Bible verses?

You might want to review the "noobs" thread.

In the Beginning God created the Heaven and the Earth. Genesis 1.1. This scripture is the first verse of the Bible for a reason. It lays the foundation for the absolute truth found in God's Holy WORD, the Bible.

        • Re: Are You an Atheist?

          Hello Wonderful Landover Church Congregation!

I must say I'm terribly delighted by what I've read on this thread. Let me just say right now for the record that you are the greatest and I sincerely hope you never change!

And I do apologize for being late to the discussion. (I realize that not knowing about the forums beforehand is no excuse.) I want to remark on some things that I read here, purely for my own enjoyment. I won't pretend to have anything useful to add. If you are a good Christian, you could probably stop reading at any time.

I must admit that I would call myself an atheist. Indeed, I would have indicated so in the poll, but I was hesitant to select an option that said I hated both God and Jesus, when exactly the opposite is true. I don't expect to be believed in that respect, for one can tell a tree by its fruit, and my fruit is definitely lacking in Godliness.

That being said, I am forced to agree with the good Christian sentiment. I hate to admit it (for obvious reasons) but we atheists are not the most clever lot.

First of all, with respect to "being nice to unbelievers," this action is probably not wise for believers, even if the Bible weren't chock full of explicit instructions to the fact. This is because showing tolerance to unbelievers perhaps makes it a little easier to not believe. Which means that it would actually enable unbelievers, essentially breeding unbelief.

I would contend there is perhaps one use for us unbelievers. That is, that unbelievers can become believers. Please correct me (sternly) if I am wrong, but is this not the main idea of the Good News that Jesus taught? It is possible for a person to change belief, and go from unsaved to saved. I would assume that this would be the only justifiable logical reason to tolerate any unbeliever to any degree, whatsoever.

If this is the case, then it goes without saying that staunch atheists should rightfully be considered scum, as that is the extent of their usefulness to Christians. It would be ridiculous for good Christian people to welcome atheists, as it is much the same as welcoming unbelief. Only to those whose motives are obviously to achieve salvation should any tolerance be yielded.

This isn't some outdated barbaric notion, this is simply common sense. No wonder atheists have a reputation for being so ridiculous. I'm not a Christian clinging to fundamental beliefs, I'm an atheist with nothing to lose, and I acknowledge this fact only to keep from losing sight of the truth by drowning in my own lies.

If you would continue to indulge my ranting, Good Congregation, I'd like to take a moment to bash my kind a bit more in a different vein.

I don't wish to assert that I am an authority on atheism, but being an atheist, and keeping company with atheists, I have had much opportunity to learn of their thoughts. What I have learned is that atheism is a much more arbitrary and closed-minded choice of faith(lessness) than Christianity ever thought of being.

The reasons I hear for why people become atheists tend to be somewhat absurd. I won't bore you by listing the common philosophical arguments. These have been proffered and refuted to death over countless centuries. Besides, these are generally justifications that are adopted after the choice has been made.

Reason number one (in my limited experience) is that something terrible happened, and that proves that God wasn't watching out. Not to belittle the terrible things that happen, and I can certainly understand how they are traumatic, but if the Bible is true, then nothing that happens on Earth truly matters.

Let me rephrase that. Nothing that happens beyond your control (in other words, nothing that God does) really matters. All that matters are the choices you make with respect to these events. This is because the time we spend on Earth would be trivial compared to the afterlife. Any Earthly experience would be trivial. And there is no such thing as true death, except for Hell. (I'm of course speaking in the context of the hypothetical situation in which the Bible is true.) If you were truly a believer, then you'd realize that with God, anything is possible, and any Earthly matter at all is absolutely trivial.

Which brings me to the second most popular reason I've heard: "I don't see how God could be real." In many situations, an atheist becomes an atheist because he or she cannot imagine what it would mean if God were real. In fact, I think many so-called Christians also lack that imagination. I know it may be anathema to not only quote from outside the Bible, but also to quote an atheist, but I think you good people would enjoy this one:

Philosopher's Syndrome: Mistaking a failure of imagination for an insight into necessity. -- Daniel Dennet

This is essentially saying, if I understand correctly, that philosophers can make the mistake of confusing their inability to imagine something for insight into what is possible or not. Of course, I'm applying this to atheistic thought. The bottom line is that, just because you can't imagine how God could be real doesn't mean that He isn't real.

I could go on, but this post is already too large. I apologize for taking so much of your valuable time already.

Thank you for listening to the ramblings of a self-important heathen who pretends to Christian understanding.

          Keep the Faith!

Thanks 'Brother' Lazarus. I almost feel welcomed, although I can't help but to feel there may have been a slight amount of sarcasm in your statements...

I would do so but I don't see myself being around here for too much longer, although your kind advise has been noted, thank you.

Oh and by the way, you yourself may have made a slight gramatical error in your opening line...

"Welcome to God's favorite forum where proper spelling, grammar, punctuation and sentence structure are always appreciated."

I think proper spelling, grammar, punctuation and sentance structure is always appreciated, not 'are' always appreciated. But nevermind, I forgive you. Thought God may not, I've heard he hates hypoctites...

You thought wrong. A compound subject joined with "and" is plural. You must have attended public school.

Hmm. I'm a little unsure, myself. I'm not going to vulgarly bash beliefs that good people hold strongly to. However, I myself have some doubts. I do love God. I do believe in God. I do love Jesus. I do believe in Jesus. However, the Bible in itself is something that I feel a little skeptical about. Since the Bible has been regulated by the early church, and a lot of other testament have been taken from it, I'm just a little concerned. Although, since I'm only sixteen, it's only natural that I'm a little confused, right?

Don't let the atheists fool you. The Bible is the only true History of the human race, and it's always going to be right. What else can make that claim?
May you be a blessing to every life you touch.

At least atheists can make up their minds.

Atheists do not worship anyone, hence the name.
If they worshiped Satan they would be called Satanists. :l

Atheism can be either the rejection of theism,[1] or the position that deities do not exist.[2] In the broadest sense, it is the absence of belief in the existence of deities.[3]
The term atheism originated from the Greek ἄθεος (atheos), which was derogatively applied to anyone thought to believe in false gods, no gods, or doctrines that stood in conflict with established religions.

Wash is right. Satan honestly doesn't care if you worship him or not, what he cares about is if you don't worship God (the God of 1611 KJV Bible, that is).

Another way of looking at it is this: Everybody worships something. By worship I mean esteem more than anything else -- anything else -- in this world. For Bible-believing Christians like us it is God. For a Muslim, it's allah. For an atheist, well it could be simply yourself or maybe mainstream science or something to that liking. Whatever you worship is what you base your life around.

Many atheists like to claim "Well I don't believe in a God but I'm a moral person." And I ask them "Where do you get your morals from?" and they say themselves. They are in essence worshipping themselves.

I wouldn't worship myself. I'm just a mortal. Seems kinda foolish to me, don't you think?

So what you get your morals from is what you worship?

I get my morals from experience and Aesop's fables.
Do I worship experience and an author?
