Hershey Highway, your knowledge of the founding fathers leaves much to be desired. They always intended this to be a Christian nation.
John Adams and John Hancock: We Recognize No Sovereign but God, and no King but Jesus! [April 18, 1775]
John Adams:“ The general principles upon which the Fathers achieved independence were the general principals of Christianity… I will avow that I believed and now believe that those general principles of Christianity are as eternal and immutable as the existence and attributes of God.”• “[July 4th] ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty.”–John Adams in a letter written to Abigail on the day the Declaration was approved by Congress “We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge, or gallantry, would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” --October 11, 1798”I have examined all religions, as well as my narrow sphere, my straightened means, and my busy life, would allow; and the result is that the Bible is the best Book in the world. It contains more philosophy than all the libraries I have seen.” December 25, 1813 letter to Thomas Jefferson “Without Religion this World would be Something not fit to be mentioned in polite Company, I mean Hell.” [John Adams to Thomas Jefferson, April 19, 1817] |
Samuel Adams:“ He who made all men hath made the truths necessary to human happiness obvious to all… Our forefathers opened the Bible to all.” [ “American Independence,” August 1, 1776. Speech delivered at the State House in Philadelphia] “Let divines and philosophers, statesmen and patriots, unite their endeavors to renovate the age by impressing the minds of men with the importance of educating their little boys and girls, inculcating in the minds of youth the fear and love of the Deity… and leading them in the study and practice of the exalted virtues of the Christian system.”
John Quincy Adams:• “Why is it that, next to the birthday of the Savior of the world, your most joyous and most venerated festival returns on this day [the Fourth of July]?” “Is it not that, in the chain of human events, the birthday of the nation is indissolubly linked with the birthday of the Savior? That it forms a leading event in the progress of the Gospel dispensation? Is it not that the Declaration of Independence first organized the social compact on the foundation of the Redeemer's mission upon earth? That it laid the cornerstone of human government upon the first precepts of Christianity”? “The Law given from Sinai [The Ten Commandments] was a civil and municipal as well as a moral and religious code.” John Quincy Adams. Letters to his son. p. 61
I could go on, but my arguments will probably fall on your deaf heathen ears. I am just a lowly noob and all the pastors are in preparation for tomorrow.

Christians are superior because we possess an understanding that unbelievers lack. It is through the Power of Jesus only the converted mind is able to understand what is going on in the world; what the Communists are really up to; what Satan's intentions are. Most unbelievers do not even believe in Satan and cannot understand his tactics.

      Re: Are You an Atheist?

Assuming that this was meant to be a Christian nation, that doesn't mean that YOUR version is the correct one. Also you managed to list 4 of the founding fathers. Now if we set aside the fact that in that day and age publicly saying you were an atheist would be the same as yelling "I am a terrorist" in an airport now, we are still left with the other 45 founding fathers. Many of the founding fathers were known to be religious, however the majority were Protestant, Episcopal, Roman Catholic, as well as Lutheran, Congregationalists, Methodists, and Dutch Reformed. Not to mention the large number who were Deists. It would be impossible for so many different religions to work together unless there was an agreement that all religions were to be accepted. I haven't even mentioned that some founding fathers were so against organized religion that Jefferson wrote the Jefferson Bible.
Millions of innocent men, women and children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been burnt, tortured, fined and imprisoned; yet we have not advanced one inch towards uniformity. -Thomas Jefferson, Notes on Virginia, 1782
Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between man and his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legislative powers of government reach actions only, and not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should 'make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,' thus building a wall of separation between church and State.
-Thomas Jefferson, letter to Danbury Baptist Association, CT., Jan. 1, 1802
"I almost shudder at the thought of alluding to the most fatal example of the abuses of grief which the history of mankind has preserved--the Cross. Consider what calamities that engine of grief has produced!" --- John Adams, letter to Thomas Jefferson
Clearly many of the more notable founding fathers were either deist or atheist in their private lives.

I'm sorry. I can't read your post as it seems to have not been posted in American.

As far as I can tell, you are agreeing with Hershey Highway. That comes as no surprise considering your mentally deficient state.

Drunken, stupid and not speaking American is no way to go through life, son.

Sir, you are living proof of the Tower of Babel – it is clear you do not speak American.

You sit there, probably one of a family of 10, in your 4m x 4m communist worker’s apartment in a land swarming with gypsies but here in America everyone is happy and rich and you tell us that God is not merciful to the people who love Him?

You come here and try to tell God that He is wrong, when He made you! (I don’t know why He bothered.)

For your information Highway is a sinner; he has spat in God’s Face.

I'm a thoughtful, caring, well-adjusted man who believes in God and follows the word of the Lord. So my answer would be no, I'm not an atheist.
