But that was not the question. The nutjob poster (I can't be bothered wasting bandwidth to check who it was, now) said witches did not cast spells.

The issue of whether they actually could do what they said they were doing was not raised. They clearly DO believe that they can cast spells (etymology here) - whereas the mental poster suggested that all this spell-casting stuff was mere tittle-tattle: not a thing at all.
