When did Jesus become a hippie? Do you think Jesus tolerates sin? Does He say, "Oh it's okay."

No He doesn't. Jesus says His angels are going to cast the sinners into a lake of fire!

Matthew 13:40-42 As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world.
        The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;
And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

What did Paul say about tolerating sinners? Are we supposed to look the other way while they sin? Of course not. He tells us to rebuke them before all!

1 Timothy 5:20 Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.
Christians are superior because we possess an understanding that unbelievers lack. It is through the Power of Jesus only the converted mind is able to understand what is going on in the world; what the Communists are really up to; what Satan's intentions are. Most unbelievers do not even believe in Satan and cannot understand his tactics.

Hells is described as a fiery furnace and a lake of fire where there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Heaven is a place of joy and happiness.

Luke 6:23 "Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward [is] great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets."

Re: What can you do if your daughter refuses to marry her rapist?

I must confess that I have until today not read the parts of the Bible that the debate centers on, but it again highlights what I have for a long time believed. We must do our best to follow the spirit of the Bible and not the literal meaning of every word of it. Otherwise the result will be catastrophic.

The verses of Deuteronomy that are being discussed were written 3000 years ago (I think), and certainly not in English. And yet we are to have faith that the exact meaning of the text has been preserved to this day throughout numerous transcriptions and translations etc etc.

And just reading those few verses it says that if a married woman is raped in the forest the man should be killed and the woman has no sin. But if the woman is not married, they should get married, and the mans price for his sin is 50 shekels. It just doesn't make sense.

Obviously all we can be sure about from this passage is
                    1. Rape is a heinous crime, and should be harshly punished.
                    2. As is adultery.
                    3. A woman's virginity is to be respected (by man and woman alike).

On a side note I find it preposterous that you feel able to put a TM on the term "True Christian".

No, I do not. But as I was trying to explain, the Bible we have now is not identical to the original. If we act as though it is, and do not believe in the fallacy of the men who wrote it and wewrote it and edited it and translated it since then, we will be led astray.

Are you trying to suggest that the Holy Bible has fallen victim to some third-grade game of telephone-tag? That the thousands of Bible Scholars who have dedicated their lives to historical and spiritual research are just as incapable of making a decent copy? Do you think that if the Zerox machine existed two thousand years ago that Christianity would be ANY different?
May you be a blessing to every life you touch.

Do you think God couldn't ensure the Bible remained accurate when it was translated into English? He made sure that King Jame's scribes wrote exactly what He wanted the Bible to say. The Holy KJV 1611 Bible is God's literal word and failure to follow it literally and to the letter is the path to damnation.

Of course he could. But, either he didn't, or there are a lot of people who have posted on the this thread who are interpreting it wrong. To me it is clear that it cannot be the intention for that passage to mean that when a married woman is raped, she is (in some cases, and in some cases not) without sin, and he is to be killed, but when an unmarried woman is raped they are to marry regardless of circumstance.

And are you really 100% certain, considering that all men are fallible, that the last part of those verses is talking about rape? Even if the text is 100% correctly and completely the word of God, are you sure that your interpretation of the words is the 100% correct and complete will of God?

That is all I am going to say on the matter. Otherwise, I might be tempted onto a false path by the false prophets I feel are lurking on this site.

Oh, and just in case you are right about following the Bible to the letter, I'd advise you to go have a word with those of your colleagues who were equating the 50 shekels with 190 or 250 dollars. We wouldn't want anyone to get onto the path of damnation for using the wrong exchange rate would we. Much safer to go dig up some shekels instead.

The shekel is/was a coin. its weight was approx .35 troy ounce. Coins where either made of gold or silver. So the actual value of said female would depend on two things, the first is the shekel gold or silver? Second what is the currant trading price of the metal being used. I can only speculate that silver would be used in the case of a female, thus you have the $190-$250 dollar range.
