Have done so. Aside from a comment about hippies trying to legalise the drug via a back door (countered by the ability to make it in forms that don't get the user high), I couldn't see anything relevant. Are there are specific posts I missed?

To put it in perspective, drug companies have been trying for years to make a synthetic THC (the primary active ingredient). Surely this suggests that there are some desirable properties in the plant?

Also clinically very useful in treating the symptoms of multiple schlerosis. As the active ingredient can be extracted, such that it can be taken in a manner which won't get the patient stoned, would it not be worth at least giving it a proper clinical trial?

Of course, recreational use of the drug should be very carefully considered but same goes for any drug. Are there any particular parts of scripture I am forgetting which allow alcohol and tobacco consumption, but forbid the use of other drugs?

It would still be sinful. If someone gets lung cancer, it's because God struck them with the affliction to punish them for their sins. It would be going against the Divine Will of the LORD to attempt to treat any sort of demonic affliction with the use of synthetic "drugs". Not to mention, since THC is the active ingredient, it's probably the stuff that puts demons in the rectum when marihuana is smoked. That means it's still not safe.

Your insurance agency is also out there to make money and looking for every reason to avoid paying out, whereas Harvard is a research institute, so the results do not effect them.

And while it may be possible to believe that illnesses can be caused by God, why would he decide to punish tobacco smokers (the very places it tends to cause mutations have been identified), but (if this study is on to something) make people smoking pot better off?

Though you are all right in that what some people do to take drugs is a pretty horrific picture of how low a human can sink.

One or two is more than enough to get you high. In comparison, 4 to 10 times the amount of alcohol it takes to get you drunk could kill you.

Nobody is quite sure what is does to help the plants, though some theories are that it is there to protect the plant from harmful UV rays, as it absorbs UV-B waves quite nicely. Equally, it could also discourage consumption, as you suggested.
