Reminder to parents: Give your child a gender matching name!

Praise Jesus, but a public school in Mississippi is getting it right! There's some hope for that state!

Girl Beaten for Having "Boy's Name"

What's in a name? A 12-year-old girl at Hernando Middle School in Mississippi was beaten by five fellow students -- reportedly because they said her name, Randi, was "a boy name."
"They started talking about me like I was a man," she told local news station WREG. "That I shouldn't be in this world. And my name was a boy name." The four girls and a boy surrounded her after a Fellowship of Christian Students meeting, and, she said, kicked her in the rib and leg, hit her in the face, sat on her, pushed her face into the floor, and threw her onto a cafeteria table.
Apparently, the incident was caught on surveillance camera, but in order to maintain student privacy, the film has not been released. A school administrator issued a statement, said WREG, that "fighting is not tolerated and that disciplinary action will be taken to the fullest extent of the law." No charges were filed, however, because the police were not called. Whether the attack was an isolated incident or part of ongoing bullying remains unknown.
The student in question was not said to be LGBT -- but whether she is or not doesn't matter. She was beaten because she was perceived to be in some way not conforming to her gender. That is yet another reason schools need to include discussions of sexual orientation and gender identity and expression in diversity and anti-bullying programs. It is not just LGBT students at risk, but potentially others as well. Students, teachers, and staff must learn that even characteristics some people might view as "deviant" or "sinful" are still no excuse for violence and bullying.
The message clearly needs to spread throughout the state. A high school football player in Mendenhall, Mississippi, was kicked him off the team several weeks ago for wearing pink cleats in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. He was reinstated to the team yesterday, but only after filing a lawsuit.
Earlier this year, Fulton, Mississippi high school student Constance McMillen fought a celebrated case to bring another girl to the prom. And in October 2009, an out lesbian teen in Wesson, Mississippi, Ceara Sturgis, challenged her school when it said she could not have her yearbook photo taken wearing a tuxedo.
The youth-led Mississippi Safe Schools Coalition is working to change policies and minds to make schools safer for all students in the state. They -- and national organizations such as GLSEN -- have a tough road ahead. Federal legislation such as the Safe Schools Improvement Act and the Student Nondiscrimination Act would help send the message that schools must do more to put an end to discrimination, harassment, and bullying on the basis of real or perceived sexual orientation or gender identity.
This story comes from the most vile biased media out there, change.org, so I'm sure they got it wrong. I'm sure these poor, innocent Christian men and women simply reminded her that it's not proper that she have a boys name. They even may have mentioned concern with her parents trying to turn her into a raging lesbean by giving her a boy name. I pray that Mississippi courts will make the right choice and commend the efforts of these True Christians when she attempts totake them to court.

Re: Reminder to parents: Give your child a gender matching name!

I think we must remember that names are aspirational attributes, we are to "grow into" our names, as an honor to our parents who named us.

This is a universal and God Given Law and we see it not only in the Bible (Peter meaning 'rock') but in primitive godless parts of the world like France.

If your parents give you an inappropriate name, it is likely they are atheists (or catholick) and, as such you should apply for re-christening at your nearest Baptist church (or Landover if you can afford the fees.)

My parents gave me a girls name.

My real name is Kendall. I go by Ken, though.

Have you repented for that? You've been infected with a demon because of the name your parents gave you.

I'm not 100% sure of what repented fully means, but from my understanding, it's ceasing sin to god.

If that's what it means, then yes, I have. I absolutely despise my name, and I will NOT be called it by any means. When I get older, I am going to change my name to just Ken.

I also note the negroidal community is replete with names that defy common sense.

Toniqua, Charvel, Decabooter, what are these parents thinking?

And don't get me started on those chink names!

Are you people serious? Ever hear of Louis/Louise Jordan is also a name that is male or female, not to mention several other names that have male or female spelling. Carol can be a boy or a girls name. There are no name police that said these are boy names and these are girl names. Names came about because of their meaning. For example Alice means noble, exaulted. Carol an Anglicised form of Carolus (see Charles) therefore a boy named Carol is taken from the root word carolus.
As shakespeare said "What's in a name a rose by any other name would smell just as sweet.". Our names are not what defines who we are, our actions define who we are! If there is any truth to the article and the girl got beaten up for her name then it was wrong. If the girl was beat up for another reason and change. org is making a moutain out of a mole hill than that's their wrong doing and we have no right to pass judgement on this girl who happens to have the female spelling of Randy which is more than likely derived from Brandi. another interesting thing about names is that it seems as if alot of names come from much longer names, throughout history parents shortened names more than likely just to be different.

Why would you want to give a child a name that is for the opposite sex. Think of all the harm the child will live with all it's life. Just like in the article posted.

There are "name police" as you put it. In Sweden the child's name must be approved by the "Skatteverket". The law says "First names shall not be approved if they can cause offense or can be supposed to cause discomfort for the one using it, or names which for some obvious reason are not suitable as a first name". If only other countries had similar laws then none of this would happen.

What is happening to our country? That rebellious queer was rightly kicked off the field for pink cleats have no place on a high school gridiron! (This is coming from a former high school quarterback...the state record for my completions and yards held for 15 years). No teenager, or anybody for that matter, should be out trying to promote "breast cancer awareness". We don't need to be aware of women's breasts! The fact that we've been a bunch of sexual perverts running around talking about breast cancer is what helped bring a lot of disasters from God to our country. We are being punished and rightfully so.
