Do you thank God when something terrible happens?

No, really. It was just something that crossed my mind when my friend's baby was diagnosed with terminal eyeball cancer. I knew I had to thank God but I couldn't put my finger on it. Do I thank Him for the illness or do I thank Him for the suffering. Or do I just do the general thing and thank Him for being alive and able to experience this wonderful display of God demonstrating His love for us whether it be through or own suffering or somebody else's?

No matter which way you look at it, it IS God once again demonstrating love. How can you not feel loved when sombody's face will rot off and yours won't? I love God and he loves me. That's the way it always will be and demonstrations of this are in our everyday lives. How could you possibly not believe; do atheist's have some kind of theoretical eyeball cancer?

Many good observations here Brother Deaner. I had a neighbor years ago whose face rotted off from cancer. This happened because he chose to pray for healing instead of seeing a doctor. God was obviously impressed because He used the cancer to take my neighbor home to Heaven.

Very good point friend. Who is it that suffers more? The person who lives a full lifetime dealing with all the trash in society, the garbage of heathens surrounding them, the greed of our monetary system enslaving us, sickness, broken hearts, and may other foul experiences in life. OR, those born to suffer for only a short time.

The parents should be praising Jesus for saving their child from the clutches of our evil world.

Have the parents planned a celebration of this joyous occasion yet?

Brother Deaner, I even thank God for my ingrowing toe nail. I can just sense His Breath when I take off my shoes and socks and look at the bloody mess wonder of it all! It's almost like being crucified a little - I know that sounds weird, but in way I feel proud I can give a little blood in return! GLORY!

The Lord should be thanked for giving this little Rug Muncher a short-cut to Heaven.
Having a terminal Illness should be looked on as a Blessing, and any pain suffered would be nothing compared with the suffering Our Lord Jesus Christ endured on the Cross.

Sometimes I envy those that God calls home to Heaven, even if God shows His love through a painful disfiguring disease or a bizarre farm accident. In fact, sometimes I pray that God would call me home immediately. Like whenever "Dancing With the Stars" comes on the TV.

That is a fine example of suffering for our Lord. I'm sure Jesus is very proud of you and welcomes the screams of pain of anguish.

An ingrowing toenail and a ganglion must be very similar, I therefore suggest reading this extract from an article on the internet:

A ganglion cyst (also known as a bible bump) is a swelling that often appears on or around joints and tendons in the hand (or sometimes feet). The size of the cyst can vary over time, often becoming more inflamed if irritated. It is most frequently located around the wrist and on the fingers.

Treatment

One traditional method of treating a ganglion cyst was to strike the lump with a large, heavy book. And since even the poorest households usually possessed a Bible, that was what they used, which is how ganglion cysts came to be nicknamed "Bible Bumps" or sometimes "Gideon's Disease."

Now if you just examine the facts, if 10% of the world had ganglions and all your ancestors must have survived because you are here and reading this, then hitting any infected or diseased site with a family Bible* (KJV 1611 only!) is obviously a cure for everything and God gave it to us (probably to reduce the number of prayers He was receiving.)

I thank God for everything, right down to the thoughts that pass through my head, since he is omnipotent and omniscient. Good or bad, joyous or terribly painful, everything is part of God's master plan. Praise!

I have come to believe that the LORD has made taking a bath very painful for my wife. Every so often in the evenings I will hear her moan or scream out "Oh GOD" from the bathroom, and I can only assume that the water is too hot as she is getting in.

Perhaps this is a warning from GOD that she is not to do anything unwholesome? I would keep an eye on her myself but it causes me to think dirty thoughts about having relations with my wife for purposes other than having children, so I trust in the LORD to keep her chaste by giving her a little sample of hell every time the bath is a little too hot.

Indeed, I thank God every single time something terrible happens!

When Hurricane Katrina hit, I thanked God for keeping me safe and dry here in Indiana.

When scores of people died during snowstorm-related power outages in the northeast, I thanked God that I was warm and cozy in Indiana.

When a member of my congregation was mangled beyond recognition in a horrible car accident while pulling out of the church parking lot, I thanked God for giving me the good manners to let her go ahead of me.

When a neighbor lost his stones to cancer, I thanked God that I'd not angered Him however the neighbor had, and that He had shown mercy on me by not afflicting me with a similar disease.

Yes, friend. Every time something horrible happens, I thank God!
