Auction of Great Work of Art

Landover Baptist Christian University Department of Biblical Science (LBCUDBS) is on a fund raiser! Those cute Golden Lion Tamarin Monkeys aren’t going to vivisect themselves and a Godly Mystery may go unsolved through lack of funding.

Take a look at the classical lines of the statue below. Could this be your statue of David by that famous French sculptor Rodin? It could be – read on!

Here’s your chance to help BS and secure a late 19th century masterpiece to grace you home.

What true Christian could forego the chance of having such a masterpiece depicting Christ’s ancestor as Jonathan would have known him?

We do not own great works of art – we hold them in trust for those who follow. And here is an investment opportunity for the future and a joy to behold – think of the interesting conversations you can have with visitors or the hours of knowing that you have a work by Rodin to pass on to your descendants.

It is hand chiselled in fine marble (it looks like marble but I’m no geologist) and is crafted with skill and steeped in history. It is believed to be an homage (that’s French for “a copy”) to Michelangelo’s David which is on display in the Florence's Galleria dell'Accademia.

It is said that this very work has graced the library of The Tsar in Moscow, Russia; The Ballroom of Buckingham Palace in London, England and the entrance hall to the White House during the final days of Ike’s Presidency.

We know it is by Rodin because you can see his name at the base of the tree behind his right leg. (Well I can’t, but Nephew Zebulun can, because his eyes are better than mine.)

So, how do you get it? It’s a straightforward auction. Simply submit your irrevocable bid by 4th June 2009 to this address:

    Bathfire E. (Statue Offer)
    Room 101,
    Vivisection Laboratories,
    Department of Biblical Science,
    Landover Baptist Christian University,
    Freehold
    IOWA

There is no reserve, but I already have an opening bid of $7,500 from a certain Pastor!

    How glorious!

I wonder if the ladies who come to The Monthly Visitor would consider joining with me in a higher bid. This would be perfect for the conservatory, from which I had a 15th-century statue of Mary removed during the renovations! (The original owners of the estate were Catholics.)

Over my dead body. You couldn't pay me to accept trash like that. The whole thought of it is revolting. I'm offended that something like this would even be offered.
May you be a blessing to every life you touch.

Re: Auction of Great Work of Art

It is a wonderful piece of art. Thank goodness the artist, or some more recent owner, chose either not to depict or to chop off the naughty bits.

The face looks . . . familiar though. It's probably nothing. They say all great art is timeless and the humanity captured therein seems familiar to everyone.

Still, I can't help feeling I know the person who posed for it. Probably a trick of light I suppose.

I will be sending in my bid shortly. The face reminds me of something non-existent for some reason though.

I'm glad you brought that up, Brother, because -- although Rodin enjoyed French ancestry -- the face on that statue looks decidedly Flemish (or should I say phlegmish), which I can't believe the great Rodin would have wanted at all.

I would like to make it clear to my Brothers and Sisters that I did NOT pose for this statue. There is something very very wrong about it. It might cause people to start worshipping it, and that would be a grave SIN! The number of heathens that get aroused by my avatar is bad enough as it is, so I wouldn't want to tempt anyone else.

I would also like to state on the record that - although I do indeed have an old war wound - it was nowhere near the place where, um, it looks I had an "accident".

                          So I have! Let me pick out the relevant bits;

                          YIC, etc., etc,

Look, this is very, very simple. Nephew Zebulun came to be with a very fine statue, clearly marked (well, not exactly clearly but Zebulun can see it) as the work of Rodin.
I must admit that having looked at the head, there is a passing resemblance but I am sure that it is coincidental – You hair is black, and the statue’s is white – so it can’t be you.

I do admit that the spectacles do add to the impression but I have looked and they are clearly an old pair of Foster Grants minus the lenses.

Look, this is going for good money, I’m sure you do not want any accusations of “Pride” thrown in your direction, nor would you wish the Lord to be deprived of a Godly sum.

Can you just let this drop?

PS, I'm not too sure about the verse you quoted - I doubt anyone's going to worship it and the ladies' interest seems to be dropping off after you pointed that out about your war-wound.

Erm.. the anonymous Pastor’s bid of $7,500 still stands and even with an generous estimate of $20 for the value of “fourteen slightly dented cans of food with no labels, seven chipped Fiestaware bowls and plates, and a three-legged goat!” your combined bid of $1812.74 leaves you $5667.26 short of a winning bid even taking the chastity belt (is it used?) into consideration.
Gentlemen, don’t let the ladies show more artistic taste than yourselves! Dig deep into those pockets! This is an investment! Come on now! Do I hear $8,000?
