Don't celebrate New Years - an evil pagan holiday!

Why Christians Don’t Celebrate New Year’s

What’s wrong with celebrating the new year? What’s wrong with “ringing out the old and ringing in the new”? After all, aren’t real Christians commanded to “walk in newness of life” (Rom. 6:4), and isn’t that what New Year’s celebrations are all about? The plain truth may surprise you!

January 1st, the stroke of midnight: Phil and Julia party like there is no tomorrow, on a ballroom dance floor crowded with men in tuxedoes and women in evening gowns.

Ralph, feeling happy and warm, weaves through traffic, while drunk behind the wheel of a potential killing machine, oblivious to the danger he presents to himself and to others. Todd and Mara, strangers who have just met, exchange kisses while dancing to 120 beats per minute in a dark nightclub. Fred runs outside his house, points his pistol into the air, and fires off a few rounds. Marta sits on a bench in a cold cathedral and whispers the same prayer over and over again. Susan sits at home watching television and envies the masses that crowd together at Times Square and wishes she was there, anywhere, instead of home alone on New Year’s.
And yet there are a few others scattered around the world who will not be out on New Year’s Eve. They will not be partying on a ballroom dance floor, or drinking and driving, or exchanging illicit kisses with strangers, or firing pistols into the air, or sitting beside other professing Christians, praying by rote. And they will not be sitting at home alone, wishing they were out and about with the rest of the world, ringing in the new year. Instead, they will treat New Year’s like just another ordinary day.
    Why?

Because they are true Christians—those who carefully hold fast to the exact same truths, teachings and traditions which Jesus Christ taught His apostles to pass on to the New Testament Church (Matt. 28:18-20). True Christians do not celebrate New Year’s. They do not get caught up in its “eat-drink-and-be-merry-for-tomorrow-we-die” attitude. And they do not crave to imitate those who do. Yet the vast majority of professing Christians today see nothing wrong with observing New Year’s. They do not see what the “big deal” is. Nor do they care.
What about you? Do you want to know why true Christians—whose calling and goal is to imitate the perfect, sin-free life of Jesus Christ—choose not to celebrate New Year’s or get caught up in its excitement? If so, read on. You may be surprised to learn the plain truth that most “Christian” church leaders refuse to teach.

Should A Christian Celebrate New Year's Eve / Day?

    New Year's Eve/Day

The Bible admonishes Christians to "walk decently, not in revelries and drunken bouts." (Romans 13:12-14; Galatians 5:19-21; 1 Peter 4:3) Since New Year's festivities are often characterized by the very excesses that the Bible condemns, Christians do not participate in these excesses. The Bible admonishes Christians to be moderate and self-controlled in their conduct. (1 Timothy 3:2, 11)

In addition, New Year's celebrations are rooted in pagan customs as can be read about in the references quoted in the paragraphs below. False worship is unclean and detestable in the eyes of Jehovah God, and Christians reject practices that have such origins. (Deuteronomy 18:9-12; Ezekiel 22:3, 4) The apostle Paul wrote: "What fellowship do righteousness and lawlessness have? Or what sharing does light have with darkness? Further, what harmony is there between Christ and Belial?" For good reason, Paul added: "Quit touching the unclean thing."—2 Corinthians 6:14-17.

"In ancient Rome, the first day of the year was given over to honoring Janus, the god of gates and doors and of beginnings and endings. . . . New Year's Day became a holy day in the Christian Church in A.D. 487, when it was declared the Feast of the Circumcision. At first, parties were not allowed on this day because the pagans had followed that custom. This was gradually changed and celebrations could again be held." -The 1966 World Book Encyclopedia, Volume 14, page 237

New Year's festivities are not new. Ancient inscriptions indicate that they were held in Babylon as early as the third millennium B.C.E. The celebration, which was observed in mid-March, was crucial. "At that time the god Marduk decided the destiny of the country for the coming year," says The World Book Encyclopedia. The Babylonian new year celebration lasted 11 days and included sacrifices, processions, and fertility rites.

For a time, the Romans too began their year in the month of March. But in 46 B.C.E., Emperor Julius Caesar decreed that it should begin on the first of January. That day was already dedicated to Janus, the god of beginnings, and now it would also mark the first day of the Roman year. The date changed, but the carnival atmosphere persisted. On the first of January, people "gave themselves up to riotous excess and various kinds of heathen superstition." -McClintock and Strong's Cyclopedia

      A truly appaling image!

There will be no God Fearing member of the congregation of Landover who will partake in such filth!

God marks these things in The Book of Life (Re:21:27: And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life. and Re:22:19) and they will be damned!

Technically, the 25th of December is another day of Pagan celebration. This celebration has been practiced quite a bit longer than "Christmas". Why do you suppose we celebrate Christmas on that day? Is it to spite the Pagans?

Also, you needn't send me private messages. Your accusatory stance on something that is a simple fact, leads me to question just how "Christian" you are. If I am not mistaken, you are expected to "love thy neighbor", I'm sure that also has something to do with respect for others. I was lead to believe that I have the ability to post my opinions, of course with criticisms from other, but not with complete persecution. Censorship has gotten out of hand. As an American, I'm sure you expect to have free speech, which you do. While I myself, am not American, I expect to be allowed to state my opinions no matter how much you disagree with them.
