A carol is a peon of praise for the birth of Jesus and all His Creation. You know, there are some wonderful German Tunes that are the basis for carols. I think of the tune ‘Tannenbaum’ which means Christmas tree in German (and, as God is in everything, there is no difficulty in joining in) and “Stille Nacht” which translates as “Silent Night”
I mention this as on Christmas Eve, I was drawn to the door by the sounds of a carol I had not heard before. Looking out into the street, there was a column of smartly dressed men in black uniform, carrying festive burning torches and marching in perfect step to the sound of drums and trumpets.
I went out to the sidewalk and found myself instep with the carollers. The man next to me was a Mr Heinrich Grubmuller. He seemed pleasant enough and told me they were on there way to Hebetown – the ghetto where the expensive joo lawyers live.
I asked if the song were in praise of the Messiah. He looked at me frowning and replied that it was in memory of a devout believer killed for his beliefs. He continued that it was about The Messiah's Coming To Power and straightening out the world by instructing the population what they should accept as the Truth, what they should do and how they should do it and what they can expect when He arrives and the establishes of a perfect kingdom on earth that will last 1000 years.
Well, that was good enough for me - I cannot think of anything that so follows True Christianity(tm)
1. A Martyr for the cause
2. The arrival of a Messiah
3. A strong ruler with a written moral code
4. Guidance on how to live your life
5. A promised Kingdom.
and I returned home humming away and feeling much better.
I mentioned the tune to Nephew Zebulun and he was kind enough to send me over a copy. If anyone has a translation of the words, I would be most grateful so I can sing along.
