I am sure that many here are as excited as I am with the upcoming visit by His Holiness as he prepares to be greeted by President Bush when he lands in Washington. There will be a White House meeting and ceremony on the south lawn as part of the build-up towards a Mass at the new ballpark in the U.S. capitol.
Needless to say, this is going to be a wonderful chance for Catholics and potential Catholics to get to know a veritable saint in the flesh and I, for one, am very excited.
(I note with some interest that the 'Pastors' from Landover have never been welcomed to the White House, let alone given the chance to hold worship services in the grandest of public gathering places... Maybe next time.)
I have the honour of being invited to join the festivities as Benedict (we call him Fritz informally) says Mass in NYC at St. Patrick's the day after he addresses the United Nations. If anyone wants an autograph or two let me know... he usually does a twenty minute private signing session when on tour.
Many of our first Popes were martyred for their beliefs but two thousand years later we Catholics are still here, stronger than ever and only too happy to be the home of Christianity as Jesus planned when he called upon Peter to be the rock his Church be built on. This is more proof that the will of our heavenly Father is the guiding principle and key to the success of The Holy Roman Church.
How else does one explain the universal love and affection so many have for his Holiness and how else do you explain the honour your President considers this visit to be!
Bless you, my court-ordered counseling curmudgeons,
