The universe and the things in it were created for our benefit. Read Genesis. Why, then, could those other countries not have been put there for America's benefit? For example, Scotland was put there to provide King James, through whom God would reveal His perfect Bible.

As for "suddenly," God had a chosen people going back to Abraham. You'd probably say that God cared for the nations less than He cared for His chosen people. What you overlook is that God, being God, has every right to do that.
