  • Dear Jesus

I wrote this ditty during a time of doubt in my life, when I wasn't sure what God wanted of me. It was then He showed me the light and I knew He wanted me to be a Christian country singer, to sing praise in His Holy Name. Please be assured, this song may seem alarming, that I would ever be doubting Christ, but rest assured, it has a happy ending.

Dear Jesus, I don't think You love me anymore
You used to watch me shave
and now all You do is stare from my door,
    ohhhh dear Jesus
I don't think You love me any more.

It used to be just You and me, and my Bible and jug of turpentine,
that's all we needed to get by.
Now I think that things have changed and I wonder if it is me to blame, whoa dear Jesus, do You love me any more?

Why can't we just get a grip on our manly personal relationship?
Now it's time for me to tell You how I feel.
When I get my head together, I know it's going to get much better,
oh Jesus, I know You love me after all.

And dear Jesus, while I'm shaving, You're in the next stall.

Nice song Jim. I'm a little confused about the last line. Why would Jesus only be in the stall? Jesus is watching you from all corners, everywhere, all the time.

Why thank you. I will consider such changes in an eventual re-write. I've been busy on tour. It's a little known fact I was a groupie for Bill & Gloria Gaither. I've sent them my latest samples, and I may be guest singing soon.

      So, keep an eye out.

Well, it sure is a novel song about an area of life that doesn't get much cover on vinyl (i.e. shaving, not Jesus).

I think you have another big hit on your hands Jim-boy! Are you going to be taking it on tour too?

I particularly like the reference to turpentine as found in the Apocrypha of KJV1611 - very symbolic!
        Ecclesiasticus 24:16

14I was exalted like a palme tree in Engaddi, and as a rose-plant in Iericho, as a faire oliue tree in a pleasant fielde, and grew vp as a planetree by the water. 15I gaue a sweete smell like cinamon, and aspalathus, and I yeelded a pleasant odour like the best mirrhe, as Galbanum and Onix, and sweet Storax, and as the sume of franckincense in the Tabernacle. 16As the Turpentine tree, I stretched out my branches, and my branches are the branches of honour and grace. 17As the Uine brought I foorth pleasant sauour, and my flowers are the fruit of honour and riches. 18I am the mother of faire loue, and feare, and knowledge, and holy hope, I therefore being eternall, am giuen to all my children which are named of him.

Just sit tight Brother Bathfire. Jesus just very well might bring me to perform somewhere close to your county.
