Controversy Arises Over Secret Swearing-In of Mirakirimi
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (1/8)- At 2:00PM, gathered at the Herbst Theater, across the street from San Francisco City Hall to watch the second inauguration. Sheriff Ross Mirakirimi was secretly sworn in as sheriff of San Francisco Saturday night (1/7) in a private ceremony between the hours of 4:00 PM and 7:30 PM, campaign spokesman Jim Stearns confirmed. The announcement came after it was announced that Judge Katherine Feinstein (daughter to Senator Dianne Feinstein) refused to give the oath of office to Mirkarimi, amidst concerns of a "legal conflict of interests". According to City Hall insiders, Angela Calvillo, clerk of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, performed the private swearing-in Saturday, according to Mirkarimi campaign spokesman Jim Stearns.
Safe Communities SF touted the event saying,"A San Francisco nonprofit to benefit the citzenry of San Francisco City and County by unifying behind law enforcement and reaching out to the public to educate and inform about agents of change to improve public safety by addressing community problems rooted in poor education and absence of job training and opportunities, substance abuse, prevalence of child abuse and the crisis of recidivism".
In attendance were the progressive leadership of San Francisco, including Supervisors Scott Wiener, John Avalos, David Campos, Eric Mar, and Board President David Chiu; City Treasurer Jose Cisneros; City Assessor Phil Ting; Public Defender Jeff Adachi; San Francisco Democratic Party Chair Aaron Peskin; and State Senator Tom Ammiano. None of the elected officials in presence was willing to go on the record regarding their opinion regarding the allegations of domestic violence.
No discussion was made about the allegations,
except when Ross Mirkarimi stated only,"A dark cloud hovered over today's event, but like many clouds, they will soon pass away..." Mirkarimi brought out his wife, Eliana Lopez, the subject of the current controversy, along with his son in an effort to present himself as someone who was a family man. Family members, including his mother and aunt, were also brought out. Former San Francisco mayor Art Agnos, conducted the swearing-in for the second time.
In a showing of pride in his Iranian heritage, much of the entertainment was designed to celebrate the cultural legacy. Soprano Raeeka Shehabi-Yaghmai performed an aria from Puccini's Madama Butterfly. Kristin Pankonin performed Persian folk songs on the piano. Finally, Shahrzad Khorsandi performed the dance of Termeh.
For some, the irony couldn't be more apparent, as the sign across the street front of the Herbst Theater carried a public service announcement for domestic violence, with the slogan,"Why hurt the ones you love?" as allegations of domestic violence continued to linger regarding Sheriff-elect Ross Mirkarimi.
It should be noted that on the Facebook page of Eliana Lopez and on her blog site, the last entries, dated, just 48 hours before the alleged incident have been erased. In its place is a statement on her Facebook page saying,"Today three years ago, I arrived in San Francisco, to become a mother and to fortify that feeling that my Indian blood has always beat inside me. Now more than ever I feel proud, not alone as to be Venezuelan, but to come from that vital, booming, and magic forest that is Latin America. My commitment to transmit, from my window, the best of us..."

Rudy Asercion, who attended the event stated bluntly," What is being said are just allegations at the moment, until such time that they are proven or disproven... It is unfortunate that these allegations should appear at this time, placing a dampener on the inauguration mood. Let's hope that it's not politically motivated..."

It's about darned time we got a guy in charge of this town who understands what it means to be a real man and do your duty!

I can only hope our new Sheriff will apply the same firm hand to our community that he's applied to his home!
And with any luck, the fear of Sharia law may motivate some homosexuals to clear out of this town and head for Fire Island or something. Naturally, we don't want to let him continue to be unsaved long enough to institute Sharia law. Therefore, I hope you'll all join me in praying that our firm new Sheriff will accept Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior as soon as possible!!!
