Jesus has to be smiling about the million dollar 230 foot high cross being built in Corpus Christi, Texas. We here in Freehold are planning to take charter buses down to see it when it is up.

I can't imagine anything more worth a two day drive than seeing the largest cross in the United States. We've sponsored several buses to see the Touchdown Jesus statue in Monroe, Ohio. Everyone is so pleased and pictures are in living rooms across Freehold.

We who visit from Freehold will help with the million dollars the cross will cost. There is nothing more important to support than beautiful Christian art.

Amen! While atheists and liberal so-called Christians will be clamoring on about how many meals and blankets and services for the homeless that same money could have purchased, the fact is food is only fleeting. The body dies at some point, regardless of whether one had shrimp scampi for lunch or an old hot dog found on the ground outside Costco. We should be compelling the homeless to search for the Living Waters so they can learn the value of hard work and stop being a burden on society. Studies show they would feel better about themselves, too. Really, it's a win-win, and with a giant cross serving as a constant reminder, many prayers will be answered!

I'd love to help out.
I can take my truck along with a 80' flatbed and a few of Freeholds manliness of men to the Pacific North West. There are a bunch of really big redwood trees out that way we could cut down.
Redwood does not rot, is nearly attractive enough to show God we care (though I think the cross should have Gold Leaf applied).

Great idea, Pastor Bathfire. Just south of the Creation Museum is the popular Arkencounter, the replica of Noah's Ark. It right near Williamstown, KY on Interstate 75.

A bus trip that included the Creation Museum, Arkencounter and a 230 foot cross would cement the reality in Jesus in even the most skeptical non believer.

I'm wondering if we could help the Texas people finance their cross by developing some nearby and complimentary business. Hobby Lobby sells thousands of crosses every year. It seems like a store on the site selling livingroom crosses and cross jewelry would do well.

Maybe a themed restaurant would work. It could specialize in Last Supper meals. The tables could seat on one side only like the painting.

If others have ideas let's include them here and talk to the Texas people.

While the Godly people of Corpus Christi, Texas have the right idea, so do the people of faith in Memphis. Combining these two would also please Jesus.

Trump is right to question why we allow immigrants from shithole countries, but we should also be asking about their shithole religions.

This statue should be placed at every border crossing in America.

Statue of Liberation Through Christ

Green and strangely familiar, the Statue of Liberation Through Christ towers over a suburban Memphis intersection, her Christian cross held high as if repelling unseen forces of darkness. The statue, sculpted by Ryan Bessant in Alberta, Canada, weighs six tons (not counting its pedestal) and stands over seven stories high. She out-glorifies even the World Outreach Dome behind her, a megachurch that opened in 2001. The statue itself was unveiled with much fanfare on July 4, 2006.

Known familiarly as "The Lord's Lady Liberty" and "Lady Liberation," she is the brainstorm of Apostle Alton R. Williams, senior pastor of the World Overcomers Outreach Ministries Church. Apostle Williams has written several books, filled multiple web pages, and even posted a couple of YouTube tutorials in an effort to lay out the vision and meaning behind his jaw-dropping statue.

According to Williams, the inspiration for the statue came from two sources (in addition to his faith): the nearby World's Tallest Three Crosses, which Williams would pass on the interstate, and a big Buddha statue that appeared on a nearby Memphis front lawn in 2004. Lady Liberation, wrote Williams, came together when he was thinking about these things and then saw the Statue of Liberty on a TV commercial. Bingo. Williams would build a "Christian derivative" Statue of Liberty.

When the statue was unveiled -- a giant shroud was dramatically pulled away -- a cry of protest quickly went up from a number of Statue of Liberty fans. They said that Williams was dishonoring a revered (and secular) American symbol. Williams argued that his statue and the Statue of Liberty were different -- and he had his design copyrighted and trademarked to prove his point.

Aside from the obvious Christian cross replacing the torch of enlightenment, Lady Liberation differs in several ways from Lady Liberty. Her crown is gold, it has the word "Jehovah" across its front, and each of its spikes is labeled with a different biblical "redemptive name" for God. The Statue of Liberation carries a Ten Commandments-shaped tablet. A single tear can be seen on her right cheek, symbolic, said Williams, of God's disappointment with the current state of America. Lady Liberation, unlike Lady Liberty, has visible eyeballs, and they seem sad.

The statue turned out so big that its artist, not wanting to waste space, asked Williams what he wanted in its base. Williams decided that the pedestal would make an ideal spot for a prayer chapel modeled on the Empty Tomb of Jesus. This later led to accusations that the chapel was built for people to worship the statue (it wasn't), and Williams closed the pedestal to the public.

Why use the Statue of Liberty at all? Williams says that "America belongs to God," so a hybrid of Christian and national icons was entirely appropriate. He notes that a giant statue of Moses wouldn't have been recognizable to non-Christians. He writes that he wants Lady Liberation to become a tourist attraction just like Lady Liberty, so that people who normally wouldn't go to church might stop and perhaps be saved.

The World Outreach Dome has thoughtfully provided a paved path from its capacious parking lot to the base of the statue (and souvenirs of Lady Liberation are available in the church's book shop). Our only grievance is that, despite her size, The Statue of Liberation Through Christ was never designed for people to go up to her crown -- although we accept that trying to glimpse the gas station across the street from behind the big "Jehovah" letters might not be overly inspiring.

My first thought was that Freehold should build a cross that is at least 231 feet high since ours would be bigger than theirs. Does Pastor Zeke really want another town to claim superiority in cross height?

I think the sight of the cross towering over the community would be a beacon of hope when people pass the well patrolled and secured gates of halcyon Freehold. While only True Christians™ could enter the cross and take the elevator to the observation deck, anyone passing by the main checkpoint could marvel in its purity and magnificence.

Please consider it, Brother Mr. Mayor. YOUR town could outshine Corpus Christi.

Thank you for that nice thought, Brother Larry. You are thinking along the same lines as a committee of leaders here in Freehold. We have been meeting to brainstorm about a large art piece in Freehold.

However, we are thinking the world needs additional ironic Christian art. We think Freehold should commission a new expression of the Christian faith. The United States already has Touchdown Jesus, the cross and the Ark. Why not yet an entirely new iconic image to tell the Jesus story?

Because Freehold is known for being a place where sin is punished, our thinking is we need an art piece condemning sinners. Currently, we are considering two ideas. One is a statue of Jesus with the bull whip he used on the money changers. Another is Jesus killing the fig tree.

All of this is in the early stages so please pass along ideas here. They will be forwarded to the committee.

I couldn't agree more. All those Texans will go to Hell for collaborating with Mexicans anyway. I never trust someone who claims to be an American while being able to speak Spanish. I already tweeted to The Donald that his wall should be more to the north to keep all the fake Americans out. He hasn't tweeted back yet but I am sure it is a priority for him.

We could put a cross next to it shining bright white in the cleansing glare of X-ray and gamma radiation while the faces of sinners melt into the glass ground. If the design were lifesize then this could be hundreds of feet tall, budget permitting of course. What is the budget for worshipping Jesus properly in Freehold, Mr Mayor?

That is an idea worth pursuing, Brother Toole. I had never thought about how the mushroom cloud is really a religious symbol. A statue of a mushroom cloud with a cross in front and bodies flying about comes to mind. It could easily top 230 feet.

As to the budget for such a project, the committee tells me money for Jesus will be no problem.
