    Re: Is Depression A Sin?

    Brother BAB, I am only a girl but if you are depressed, how can you then praise God, as in Philippians 4:4. If you can not praise God then you are sinning, alas, being depressed is a sin. But as I sad, you should hear from a man first!

    I hope you are not depressed Brother BAB! I will pray for you if you are though!

    Yours in Christ

        Yes, because it is childish.

        Ephesians 4:14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

          That's a lot of twisting you did there, Pastor.

          God said that you must rejoice and be happy so I guess if you are depressed, you are going against the Bible.
          Psalm 139:21-22
          Do not I hate them, O LORD, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee?
          I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies.

            I am of sorrowful disposition... sometimes.

            I know why my heart breaks every day. I know why I feel the void of despair pressing upon me. I know why my days are spent suffering and my nights are spent in regret.

            It is because GOD loves me!

            Sorrow is better than laughter: for by the sadness of the countenance the heart is made better. ~Ecclesiastes 7:3

            You cannot know joy without being familiar with despair, Brother! And when I feel joy someday, it will be AMAZING! Praise God!

            I can't wait! I hope I die TONIGHT so I can be joyful in Heaven when I wake up!
            The vine is dried up, and the fig tree languisheth; the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, even all the trees of the field, are withered: because joy is withered away from the sons of men.~Joel 1:12

              Nehemiah 8:10:
              Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our LORD: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.

              From the bold part I'd say having a depression is going against the God's word and is indeed a sin. Depressed should get their act together and get happy!

              Lamentations 3:59-66:
              O LORD, thou hast seen my wrong: judge thou my cause.

              Thou hast seen all their vengeance and all their imaginations against me.

              Thou hast heard their reproach, O LORD, and all their imaginations against me;

              The lips of those that rose up against me, and their device against me all the day.

              Behold their sitting down, and their rising up; I am their musick.

              Render unto them a recompence, O LORD, according to the work of their hands.

              Give them sorrow of heart, thy curse unto them.

              Persecute and destroy them in anger from under the heavens of the LORD.

              On the other hand depression sounds like God's punishment. I suggest everyone to do their best not to anger God. Maybe I could suggest more bible studying for everyone to preempt depression.
              Revelation 22:1:
              And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.

                Might as well be, but God gives a cure for it right there in the Bible:

                (Psalms 37:4) "Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart."

                        Where did anyone say you have to constantly be happy? Does the Bible say that? Please provide a scriptural reference if that is your stance.

                        Do you define depression as the absence of happiness? Even the most severe God-mocking atheist "doctor" would disagree with you.
