  • Re: DO NOT LET YOUR KIDS PLAY TEAM FORTRESS 2!!!

How can you say it's not condoning it when it's "awarded" to you? As far as I'm aware (Feel free to correct me on this) an award if a payment or a prize...both of which seem like condoning. And it's hardly self-discipline like you stated if it affects others...then it's just discipline, which surely we're not the ones to be dishing out?

I'm not going to spend my time quoting- please do forgive me but it's late over here in Brit-land and I'm feeling pretty lazy. But you're saying no one here is angry, and while you are certainly one of the friendlier faces I've seen commenting around this forum, and particularly in this thread I must say a lot of "True Christians" in this thread are indeed very angry and very aggressive- It's rather undeniable when it's right in front of you.

One cannot have two masters- so which is yours? God or your country? The two are not synonymous but surely it is also blasphemous to say that your country is blessed by god, and you have certain god given rights and what not. Surely god would bless all of his children.

But also, I've read the bible, I went to an Anglican school for the majority of my education and I've been taught certain things, none of which I'm seeing in here (Except from you yourself Mary). I see no love, no tolerance, no acceptance. I see only goose hunts and people looking for self-validation through an awful medium.

Throughout this thread alone I've seen people correcting grammar and spelling in an aggressive/condescending manner. I've seen posts that are just needless bashing coming from "True Christians".

But I think what really offends me the most is this
This emote pretty much sums up what is wrong with this OP and the thread as a whole...maybe even the whole forum- let me elabourate.
The original thread was about killing, explosions and all that jazz nay? It was. It was written by a "concerned parent" granted, but that's what it was about. But this emote should then be banned if you were to all agree with banning the game from your households should it not? It has no homosexual indications but I'm sure someone in here could find one? Maybe the guy with the beard has the beard so big burly men can hold onto it while they do their business in some highway lavatory? Who knows, but let's look at what else is wrong with this emote. Even under both Fletcher's Situational Ethics and the word of god himself as it is put forward the idea that one should kill non-believers. You should attempt to convert them should you not? Much have you have tried with me.
Under Situational Ethics (Which is a Christian ethic let us not forget) we look at motive, what motive is there portrayed in that emote? None. It's just mindless killing. Not killing for any particular reason other than they are followers of a different religion, which is surely against Christ but it is certainly against Fletcher's ethics. Now if they were dropping bibles, not bombs and merely converting them then it'd be fine, right now it's just a sticker on this website that says "We're a bunch of hypocritical nonsense merchants".

And I must decline the offer to join- I'm strictly agnostic. Neither disciplined enough to follow a strict Christian life, nor arrogant enough to deny the existence of any higher power.

If anyone in this thread will make it to heaven if it exists, it'll surely be you and your kind heart. Congratulations on being the first person I've ever encountered that I thought of as a true Christian - Although that probably doesn't carry much weight. ^^

It's not condoning violence. Look, have you ever been lovingly reprimanded by your parent? If you have children, have you ever kept them out of danger even when it causes them temporary distress? It's the same here, only on a spiritual scale. Just like a child learns self-discipline through the process of being disciplined, mankind learns self-discipline through the process of discipline. We are so blessed, though, to have a God who loves us enough to discipline us when we offend Him.

Know then in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so the LORD your God disciplines you.
      Deuteronomy 8:5

Blessed is the man you discipline, O LORD, the man you teach from your law
      Psalm 94:12

I know, O LORD, that your laws are righteous, and in faithfulness you have afflicted me.
      Psalm 119:75

My son, do not despise the LORD's discipline and do not resent his rebuke,
      Proverbs 3:11

because the LORD disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in.
      Proverbs 3:12

Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent.
      Revelation 3:19

Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?
      2 Corinthians 13:5

For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power?
do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:
For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain:
for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.
      Romans 13:3-4

It is the same when we parents affectionately discipline our children, or a husband lovingly disciplines his wife.

Well, I'm denying it and who do you think knows these folks better - you or I? Don't mistake passion for the LORD for anger, dear.

God does bless all His children! He blesses us enormously indeed! What you seem to misunderstand is not the part about blessing, but the part about who His children are. Not everyone who believes in God is adopted by Him. Not everyone who calls out for Him will be answered by Him (Matthew 7:21-23) It's not enough to say to oneself they believe Jesus loves them. After all, I can sit in a garage and say to myself that I believe I am a car, but that doesn't really make me one, now does it? You see, it's not about being born in the "right" place, or saying the "right" words, it's about following Christ.

Well there's your problem. Anglican churches are nothing more than a pompous British version of the catholic church, and catholics aren't Christians. If you want to know what God says, what He wants you to believe, you have to read the Holy Bible as a whole, in the context of the faith of Christ, not in the context of a failed catholic wanna-be religious organization. I mean really, what do you expect from a church that originated because a fat king wanted get divorced against the will of God?

I've not seen any "bashing" of any grammar, but it is terribly difficult to communicate when language isn't shared. There's a reason we have rules of grammar, so we are all on the same page. That's not aggressive and condescending, that's just being practical.

If you look carefully, this emote is an illustration of the dangers of following false gods, like the muslim moon god, "allah." This is where it leads - senseless, random violence. Peace only comes from following the author of peace, the creator of peace, the LORD God. If you don't believe me, just look at the differences between how Christians and muslims treat women:

If you're referring to atheism as denying the existence of a higher power, you're quite mistaken. The word refers to being without theistic belief. As an atheist, if you do not have a positive belief in God, you are by definition atheistic. Agnostic simply refers to not having knowledge. This is a lie, as the knowledge can be found in the Holy Bible. You're simply choosing to reject this knowledge.

Why thank you dear, that's very kind of you to say.

Hello, my name is Mary. I hope to fellowship with you! That is, unless you don't listen to church authority (Deuteronomy 17:12); are a witch (Exodus 22:17); are a homosexual (Leviticus 20:13; Romans 1:24-32); or fortuneteller (Leviticus 20:27) or a snotty kid who hits their dad (Exodus 21:15); or curses their parents (Proverbs 20:20; Leviticus 20:9); an adulterer (Leviticus 20:10); a non-Christian (Exodus 22:19; Deuteronomy 13:7-12; Deuteronomy 17:2-5;Romans 1:24-32); an atheist (2 Chronicles 15:12-13); or false prophet (Zechariah 13:3); from the town of one who worships another, false god (Deuteronomy 13:13-19); were a non-virgin bride (Deuteronomy 22:20-21); or blasphemer (Leviticus 24:10-16), as God calls for your execution and will no doubt send you to Hell, and I have no interest developing a friendship with the Spiritually Walking Dead.

Welcome Reingold. We have a beer company by the same name. Tastes like piss water, not that I actually know what piss water tastes like. But if I ever did taste it, it would taste like Reingold Beer(R).

I find it very interesting you profess to know all about Christianity yet you are incapable of using any scripture to back up you comments. I think you actually hate God because He refuses to answer your prayers. I do not think I cam blame Him.
John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

1st John 3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

Romans 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

Hebrews 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

Matthew 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Isaiah 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.
Amos 3:6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?
Numbers 21:6 And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.
Matthew 10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
Matthew 10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
Matthew 10:36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.

Friend, plain language is plenty strong enough. Have you considered what God thinks about poor eloquence?

                          Ephesians 5:4
Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.

                          Colossians 4:6
Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

                          Colossians 3:8
But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.

                          Matthew 12:37
For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
Isaiah 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.
Amos 3:6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?

Well, I'm unaware of the part of the bible that says to hate sinners.... Isn't christianity all about showing love and respect to others? Jesus hung out with the outcasts after all, so why should we be any different? As for the topic of Team Fortress 2, my friends and I ((all christian)) play it all the time, and the stuff you mentioned, especially the homosexuality, just sounds like conclusions you are drawing because you just want to shield your son from that kind of stuff. I assure you there couldn't be a cleaner first-person-shooter out there! TF2 was made for laughing and having fun with friends!

You can be a gamer and still follow God, the idea that the two can't coexist is irresponsible. Personally I have a $1600 computer ((I call it the Stormtrooper, I love Star Wars)) that I built specifically to play games on. Before you tell me how I'm not using it to glorify God, let me tell you, I frequently reach out to people on online multiplayer games where all the "unwanteds" stay after we christians run them off. I also am the fill in bass player at my dad's church. I hope nobody thinks I'm trying to be offensive or hateful in anyway, as that was definitely not the meaning I'm trying to put across. I just wanted to put in my two cents.

                                Thanks for reading,
                                Tim
