John 3:16 symbolic? On the contrary: it lays out specifically what is required to get to Heaven, i.e., whosoever believeth in Jesus has everlasting life.

What makes you think it's symbolic? It's pretty much a cut-and-dried declaration of intent.

at the moment, i am thinking of attending church, my parents and friends are pressuring me not to go


As of the "symbolic" "infraction", you are supposed to guide us, am I right, so why don't, instead of having someone like me with little experience in faith explain, have you teach me how to get active in the Christian community

Greetings Alhambralilah! I am also a Black man and a Christian like you. These are mostly white people on this web site but other Black people have recently appeared and one has even renounced sin just yesterday. I believe he may be on the road to becoming a Baptist. I am not a Baptist but since I am currently under rebuke for my discussion of my own sect I will not mention my own religion. I suppose you could say I have been saved but saved differently than the white people.


I am from the island of Jamaica which is far from Wisconsin where I am attending the University of Wisconsin. Are you a student also? I have noticed that many who come to this site are students. I must give you some friendly advice. There are now several Black men who come to this website. As you know the white people will get nervous around this many Black men so I believe that the very best manners must be observed to avoid any possible incidents.

There's nothing in the Bible that says you have to be "active in the Christian community" to be saved, so why bother with that before you look after the stuff that's important to Jesus, like praising Him 24/7 for, well, being Him, and stuff.
