Hi, there Pete!
to our forum.
Psalm 22:6
But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people.
You don't have to worry about being a worm, Pete. Right now, you're a hell-bound sinner!
But by reading the Bible and obeying every single thing that God commands you to do in its inspired words, you can know the Joy of Jesus and eventually the joy of relaxing back from a comfy position in Heaven and watching others burn horribly in Hell.
This is a great place, Pete. Explore the Bible with us and learn things they never taught you in Sunday School. . . Well, probably not in your Sunday School, that is.
You see, Pete, at Landover Baptist, they don't shy away from teaching young children that King David chopped up people with axes when he wasn't laying out giants with his trusty slingshot (in between writing all those psalms). The pastors know that children need to hear the details about how Abraham was poised to slit his young son's throat from ear to ear because the Lord -- who knows everything-- needed to test Abraham to see if he really knew how to obey Him.
Other riveting stories from the Bible that little ones need for spiritual guidance include Lot offering to throw his two virgin daughters to a crowd that was threatening to rape his two male dinner guests. "Rape my daughters, please. Just don't ruin my reputation as a host by doing gay stuff to these nice young men."
It's really important to make the Bible come alive for impressionable young minds. If a little boy can almost feel the sharp edge of a knife slicing through the flesh of his throat or a little girl can experience a chill of fear thinking about being forcibly penetrated over and over again by dozens of men, then those moral lessons stay with them for the rest of their lives.
Of course, the most important lesson to impress upon them is what will happen if they disobey and make God mad. They have to develop a real sense of the tortuous, agonizing pain of searing flames spreading over the skin of their bodies forever and ever and ever and screaming helplessly beyond the point where their throats are raw. Knowing that such suffering can never end makes them realize that like you, Pete, they need Jesus.
So, feel free to look around, read some of the pastors illuminating sermons. We aim to be good hosts and we promise that we won't let anyone touch your backside. If necessary, some of our members do have young daughters to offer up as substitute rape victims. . . But I kid-- except when I don't.
Remember, if it's in the
, we take it seriously.
Graciously Yours,
HandmaidenHis left hand should be under my head, and his right hand should embrace me.

Re: Introduction
Oh I am not worried about being a worm this is my favorite because it is a beautiful depiction of Christ.
Usually in the Bible, the Hebrew word for a worm is “rimmah”, which means a maggot – but the Hebrew word used here for worm, is TOLA’ATH, which means “Crimson worm” or “Scarlet worm”. Both scarlet and crimson are the colors of blood – deep red.
The Crimson worm [coccus ilicis] is a very special worm that looks more like a grub than a worm. When it is time for the female or mother Crimson worm to have babies (which she does only one time in her life), she finds the trunk of a tree, a wooden fencepost or a stick. She then attaches her body to that wood and makes a hard crimson shell. She is so strongly and permanently stuck to the wood that the shell can never be removed without tearing her body completely apart and killing her.
The Crimson worm then lays her eggs under her body and the protective shell. When the baby worms (or larvae) hatch, they stay under the shell. Not only does the mother’s body give protection for her babies, but it also provides them with food – the babies feed on the LIVING body of the mother!
After just a few days, when the young worms grow to the point that they are able to take care of themselves, the mother dies. As the mother Crimson worm dies, she oozes a crimson or scarlet red dye which not only stains the wood she is attached to, but also her young children. They are colored scarlet red for the rest of their lives.
After three days, the dead mother Crimson worm’s body loses its crimson color and turns into a white wax which falls to the ground like snow. So what did Jesus mean by saying “I am a worm”? There are a lot of ideas what Jesus might have meant, but nobody really knows for sure. However, it is very interesting that, just like the Crimson worm, Jesus sacrificed or gave up his life on a tree so that his children might be washed with his crimson blood and their sins cleaned white as snow. He died for us, that we might live through him!
So as I said I am not worried of being a worm I am not deserving of being a worm. I am just simply beginning to understand that the Bible has so much more to it then I ever imagined.

Re: Introduction
What a lovely comparison. Of course, it would be even closer if the crimson worm in question was a male, and his death only temporary (some 1 and 1/2 days), after which he'd live happily ever after, for the whole eternity. Of course, some people might say that so much complaining about two days of suffering from the point of view of an eternal being seems a bit petty, but we're not such people, right?Originally posted by Philly View PostSo what did Jesus mean by saying “I am a worm”? Welcome, Phil. If you seek companionship with other Christians and a place to fellowship, you have come to the right place. We are friendly and welcoming here. I am frantic with joy at the news of your salvation, but why do you have no congregation to attend? Are there no other Christians in your area? Do give us more of your testimony, that we may come to know you.

Re: Introduction
Can't figure out how to do the responding thing (not real tech savy) but I am a widower and as of right now I am just living my life as Paul did because I see no reason to be remarried right now and can devote more time to the Lord. I have 1 child by my late wife she died giving birth to our daughter and I have 3 adopted children which we adopted early on in our marriage because we felt the need to take in some orphans (being one myself). Of them I have twin boys and their older sister. I don't attend a church yet because I have yet to find one that is laid out like God intended a congregation to be. I was raised by my grandmother on a farm after my parents passed. And I work as a hospital chaplain. That's my life in a nutshell.

Re: Introduction
Really not a lot on the worms other than that, there is a red grub that looks very similar to the scarlet worm that is poisonous so this is why I believe God made them to be died red so they would be passed over by birds and other creatures that might have eaten them but now that they look like the poisonous worm they are passed over.Originally posted by handmaiden View PostI want to hear more about the worms!

I don't be mean to be haughty I was just giving a defense of why I like that particular verse, I am not a highly educated man and most of what I have learned of the Bible has come from searching in scripture and praying God open my eyes to His truth, the only truth. I simply enjoy studying the word of God and when I find cool new things that are generally missed like this particular worm I enjoy sharing them with other Christians.Originally posted by BrotherLarry View PostI hope your soul becomes washed in the blood of Christ and that your mind is renewed through Him.

Re: Introduction
Hello Phil, and welcome to our friendly forums. I do hope that in Landover Baptist you will find the Christian Fellowship you are seeking.
I found your discourse on the subject of the worm most interesting. Despite knowing next to nothing about ants, other than that they are a nuisance at picnics, I have always been fond of Proverbs 30:25. Do you have any insight to share on this?
Well said, Phil! There is no reason to be ashamed of knowing your own intellectual limitations.Originally posted by Philly View PostI don't be mean to be haughty I was just giving a defense of why I like that particular verse, I am not a highly educated man and most of what I have learned of the Bible has come from searching in scripture and praying God open my eyes to His truth, the only truth. Welcome to the forum. Perhaps you would like to explain your theory a bit further: The worms are crimson coloured because of their mother dying on a piece of wood. For some reason this makes you draw a parallel between Jesus, the worms/maggots and the now deceased critter, disintegrating like a piece of wax. Wouldn´t that make Jesus the mother and the worms those who used Him? Are you stating Jesus was a female? And what should we make of the crimson worms feeding of her? Please explain.
Kind regards,
RolandJeremiah 6:21 Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will lay stumblingblocks before this people, and the fathers and the sons together shall fall upon them; the neighbour and his friend shall perish.
Best wishes for the people in Ukraine.
